Welcome to the best danged website with the best bunch of folks on the internet, Clunker. Oil in the air filter sounds like you need a new PCV valve. That second gas tank option is a nice value itself. You can use it as is for longhauling, or remove the in-cab tank for safety and cleaner, fume-free ventilation. Thanks for letting me know about the PCV valve. One of the reasons I selected a truck this old is that I can virtually repair anything without hiring a mechanic. I figured that the valve cover gaskets were leaking too, so I picked up a new pair that will be going in this weekend. I also picked up a new ignition system (Pertronix conversion, 45k coil, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor) that will be going in this weekend. I still can't take any pics because the truck is still covered in snow, but I'll see if I can take a few shots in the garage this weekend.

I was happy to see the dual tanks, but I don't think the second tank has been used in years, so I'm planning to pull it and clean it out before putting gas in it. I also noticed today that it has a rear window slider. Is that common?

All the changes you listed should help with reliability, and a good idea on cleaning the second tank. The slider window is a popular add-on but just seems like a sign saying "Steal me!" if you're in a big city. Just my opinion. They are good for ventilation in summer for the non-a/c trucks.

I agree about the "steal me" advertisement. I used to live in Vancouver, WA and had several break ins, but now I live in a small college town with one of the lowest crime rates in the country, so I'm not too worried about theft. I don't have A/C ... yet, so the air flow will certainly help this summer.

The original owner installed an aftermarket steering wheel. However, I opened the box of parts last night and found that I have the original steering wheel in great shape (no cracks or chips). The wheel is worn but solid. Anyone have any ideas about how to restore it without losing the old-school charm?
