New, and request for advice on a bump buy

Post by Upriver »

Hello, new to the board although I've been lurking for a while, and am hoping to get some advice / opinions on a potential bump buy. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and have about 20 years of tinkering with an 81' Ford pickup with a 351M and c6 that I let go a few years back, but no experience with the bumpside era trucks. I'm looking for a bump to be a reliable weekend vehicle, and to use in transporting construction supplies (to go with the 1934 house remodel that we're working on. I've been looking for a while, and this 1967 250 Camper Special that seems like a fairly reasonable deal, but I thought I'd ask for opinions on what to look for in evaluating it:

No mention of mileage on the engine (352 / 4-spd), or whether it's ever been rebuilt. Looks like a stock oil bath air cleaner to me. Looks like there might be some rust at the door bottoms, and along the bumps. Has P/S & P/B which would be a plus in making trips to the city for materials.

Any thoughts on what to look for or advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

T.A.

About all I can say is that it might be a little bit overpriced at $2450.00. Try and get it for around$1500.00 or so.
As you know, the PNW is Ford country, these trucks are everywhere.

Not sure of the region - but here in the SE that's probably a fair price for something that's had some upgrades and isn't plagued with rust....looks pretty clean overall and $2k-2500 seems like the right ballpark.

As I recently learned, no magic to the bumps....find something you like and that fits your needs, and you can tinker as much or as little as your budget allows.

Be careful of rust - doors, front fenders, rocker panels, floor pans, cab corners, top cab rail, and cab mounts.

Thanks for the welcomes and the advice. I forgot to mention where I'm at - Western Washington, North of Seattle. Definitely a lot of fords from this era out here, it seems like the trick is finding one that the weather hasn't had it's way with over the years. The truck I learned to drive stick on was a 72' / 4 spd, so I guess like some other folks part of the reason for wanting to go back to one is sentimental, and part is the familiarity of having worked on similar ford vehicles. Anyway, my feeling is the price is still a bit high, so I'll probably wait a bit, and keep an eye out for others that pop up as well.

Because of the rust, and it probably need the whole front end steering components replaced, it is an under $2000.00 vehicle

Good luck and for that price I would keep looking. But that is just my opinion. If you R good with it, then all is good.
