Looking for Steering column
I am looking for a steering column, 3 speed on the column, with power steering. I have two columns for an automatic with power steering (shorter) and two with the 3 speed but manual steering (longer), are there any 3 on the tree with power steering ?

I have seen them, but usually the three speed trucks had manual steering. I would disassemble the ones you have and build the one you need out of them. Done it before a few times myself and for others, too.

If I ever see a 3-on-the-tree with power steering at a junk yard, you can bet I'm going to be buying it!

Re: Looking for Steering column
i had a local scrapper call me about a 76 sb ss. it has a 3 speed on the column shifter with power steering. i can buy it tomorrow but i will probably have to buy the whole thing. i have 2 of those columns in the past but sold both of them on this website. they are very difficult to find. the column will the a need shift collar as the pin is sloppy but it definitely is rebuildable and has the shift rods. if you are interested i can for sure get it. shame to see if get scrapped. the truck is very rusty. the column and stepside tailgate is about is all that is good. btw i saw the column this is not a bs story. it is real and i have seen it.

Re: Looking for Steering column
Jim, I may be interested, depending on the price and shipping to 46151. Also would the 76 be a direct swap for the bumpside? Please let me know.
Thanks

Re: Looking for Steering column
Since you asked, it won't be a 'drop in' as the turn signal switch (and the piece directly under steering wheel) and the wiring connector is different. Think hazard light switch. The firewall seal may be different as well.
Easiest solution in my opinion would be to take a manual steering column and put the shorter power steering shaft into it. While it is apart, its a great time to grease up the bearings and shift mechanism for the next 40 years of service

Re: Looking for Steering column
Thanks for the info. I have a couple of columns, I may take a closer look at what it will take to make the one I need.

Re: Looking for Steering column
If you want to keep your column measure the differance between the long and short shaft and cut that much out of your column and shift tube.I did this on my 68 and it worked.

The tech tutorials section shows the differences:

I converted several 4speed columns and those require only the shaft to be changed. Converting the 3-speed and automatic columns is more involved, as the tubes need to be shorter as well. Been a while,

I have one. Came out of a mid 70's F series. Will sell cheap + whatever postage it would take, it is taking up space. Email me if interested. Can take some pics if need be.
