Hello from Yakima,WA...1969 Ford F250 4x4
I've always wanted a 1969 Ford F250 4x4 ever since I can remember riding in my grandfathers as a young child. I'm now 30 & figured it's time to re-live those memories & share them with my nephews & nieces. Recently I found one on craigslist for $5,000 here in Washington that seems to be in great condition for being a 44 year old truck. I have been watching this truck for awhile & recently decided to call the gentleman & ask him a little more about the truck. I was told it has the original 360 & has around 110,000 miles on the engine. I offered him $3,500 considering it has been on craigslist for a couple months now, but haven't heard back from him since we last talked. I was just wondering was my offer insulting & what would be a fair offer to convince this gentleman to let me drive this beautiful truck home & give it some new life & memories for years to come.
Thanks,
Yakima,WA
Thanks,

Good morning Battlecat766,
Thanks for posting those nice photos! Those photos represent the truck you'd like to buy, right?
This truck looks like it has a really nice bed, that hasn't seen much hard work in its life. I'm not an experienced evaluator, yet the way the paint's fading makes me wonder about that, though--did dollar-sized strips of paint fall off, exposing the grey primer? I'm seeing that especially on the tailgate and along the top of the RH fender. I wonder what kind of paint that is, and what's under the paint.
In my opinion, for the price range you're thinking about, you might be better served to buy a Bumpside through eBay from a state with a dry climate. Though they weren't necessarily 4x4's, I've seen many Bumpsides in nicer condition sell for the price range you're considering. On the other hand, this approach would probably require a time investment (searching and waiting) that you might not want to make.

Hello from the other side.
That's a nice looking truck, I think $5k is overpriced and you are being fair in your offer. The truck has a hole in the bed on each side for gas tanks, the fender lights are incorrect, the dash looks wonky too. These trucks are plentiful, I saw one the other day offered in Seattle for $375.00, it wasn't 4X4 and needed work, but it ran.
If the guy never calls back to accept your offer, keep looking another will come along shortly.

Re: Hello from Yakima,WA...1969 Ford F250 4x4
There is a 67 4x4 with blown power steering running around the Seattle area for $1900, I'd say $5500 is a bit high for this one. OTOH my sister used to live on the "wrong" (Eastern) side of the state and she pointed out to me trucks get stupid high prices out there compared to what they do over on the wet side.
Oh, Robroy, this truck is a "dry" climate truck, Yakima area doesn't get a lot of rain. We call Eastern WA the dry side of the state. It reminds me of parts of Colorado and Utah as far as the weather goes. Even a bit of desert out there.

Thanks for the replies!
Robroy, I have been looking for months now & have only come across a few 69 F250 4x4, so i'm starting to look at other options, but I'm pretty hell bent on wanting a 5th generation Ford pickup truck.
Rwilly, I thought those holes on each side were where the gas tanks once were, & what makes you think that the fender lights are off? I've seen a lot of 2 wheel drive 69 Fords on Craigslist, but am not wanting to convert a 2 wheel drive into a 4 wheel drive because that seems like it would cost me more $$$ in the end.
Kf7mjf, I've noticed that people over on this side of the state are asking a little more than what the truck is actually valued at. The gentleman says that the truck is NADA valued at $9,500 & I don't see how that is possible considering I've seen restored trucks around that price.
Tsherry, I've been looking all over Washington, Oregon, & California, so eventually I'm bound to find one!

from Texas!
Without looking at the truck in person combined with your description I would say that truck is worth about $2,000-2,500 max. I would keep looking if I were you.

Fireguywtc, I thought the same thing when I first saw it on Criagslist, but the gentleman is so stuck on his NADA value that he isn't willing to negotiate on the price. Found another one on Craigslist today & he is only asking $1,500 but it doesn't look like it's in the condition the other one is in. How much do you think it would cost to have auto body work done to take care of the rust & dents that you can see.

Both trucks have some weird IMHO. The first truck has oddball aftermarket stuff on it, the second one is just beat up a bit.
Honestly, I'd go with the second one. It will clean up nice, and doesn't seem too bad, and you can work on it a bit at a time as needed.

kf7mjf, I was thinking the same thing! I really liked the first one but I don't think the guy is going to budge on his price. The second one isn't in the best of shape but doesn't seem to have rust around the fender wells. The bed does have some rust problems, but no holes from what I can see. I'll let you guys know what I decide! If I don't purchase either one of them I'll continue my search until I find one I must have!

Unless you are going for a hardcore restoration, you can always sandblast the bed and then put in a thick spray in bedliner. I think that is what I am going to do with my ranger, since I want to have a vintage camper shell put on top anyway.

from choo-choo town. One thing to point out is that the second truck has both beltline and the lower moulding.
Agree with most here on the first one being over-priced, he'll probably have a hard time selling it for that much.

Basketcase0302, I looked on Craigslist today & didn't see his post so I'm guessing maybe he sold it or gave up & decided he was just going to keep it in the family. After doing more research on here I noticed that the bed on the second highboy doesn't appear to be the original. I could be wrong but what do you think? I also noticed that the beltline & lower molding were still intact, which is usually missing from all the other 69 F250's I've looked at.

Re: Hello from Yakima,WA...1969 Ford F250 4x4
The second one is beat up pretty bad and isn't worth the price imo. If you could get it for cheap it would be a good truck for a body swap. You could likely find a nice 2wd truck as a donor and be way ahead of the other one.
This all depends on what you would like. If you would like a nice daily drive that is turnkey, just be patient and be willing to travel or ship further then the NW and I think you will find what you are looking for at the right price eventually. It couldn't hurt putting a want ad on the forum. That is how I found my 70.

Battlecat,
Yes, those holes are for gas tanks, but with no tanks, all you have is holes. The lights on the fenders look to be round, the original ones would be shaped differently. I have aftermarket on mine too, they don't look bad, just aren't original.
