Great to be here! From Ohio
In December of 2011 I picked up my 1968 F-100 bought from the original owner! He bought it from Steimel Village Ford in Millersburg, Ohio - he was 52 at the time. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 91. The truck has been garage kept its entire life and has not been on the road for over two decades. The truck is so solid it is hard to believe that a 68 still exists, unrestored, in this condition in Ohio. It will continue to be garage kept and stay inside for the winters (Ohio salt) but will get its share of driving come the spring, summer, and fall. Let me know what you guys think. My V.I.N. tag does not state the color code, do you think it is Yucatan Gold or Sunlit Gold? Also, have any of you seen a tonneau cover quite like this one? Should I keep it on?

from SoCal. Wow, that truck is beautiful!! And that bed cover rocks!! I would definately keep it on! You sure dont see covers like that every day! But then, its all up to you and what you want the truck to look like. But that cover is definately uncommon, if not downright rare. I have not seen one of those in years! Is it paintable? Painting it might make it more desirable to you, but the white doesnt look bad.

MMil,
As i wipe the drool off my keyboard...what an awesome display of a true "survivor"!
Been around them for many years now and have never seen a top as unique as that. Reminds me of the rare Ranchero hard tops, (but I can't remember the brand name for nothing now that I got rid of the Chero').
I would say the cover is very rare and well worth keeping!

Good morning MMil,
Looks like you have a one-of-a-thousand kind of truck there. Incredible condition! I like the cover too--I'd keep it on.

Re: Great to be here! From Ohio
Guys,
Thanks for all your compliments, I feel so lucky to have found my 68! Two things: Do you think the color is Yucatan Gold or Sunlit Gold? My V.I.N tag is blank under the color code. Also, if I want a deep "throaty" aggressive (but not obnoxious) sound, what muffler system should I put on it? One suggestion someone gave me was a dual 40 series Flo-Master system with 2 1/2 inch pipe. Any thoughts?
PS: How do you like the GPS factory option from 1968?

Re: Great to be here! From Ohio
Good afternoon MMil,
I love that GPS system! Actually, something like that would be truly handy for driving around in unknown zones.
I'm personally not sure on the truck's color, and I don't have much experience with different exhaust systems. What I have read though, over and over again, from a number of experienced members, is that other brands like Magnaflow are preferred over Flowmaster mufflers, because many of the Flowmaster mufflers do surprisingly poorly on actual flow tests.
I put high-dollar stainless Borla mufflers on my truck, and they're very nice. I chose them because they scored near the top (if not the actual top) in some flow test results I saw published. My only complaint on the Borlas, and this is kind of a funny complaint, is that they're actually a little too quiet! During hard acceleration they sing very nicely, but honestly hard acceleration probably accounts for about 2% of my driving time. If I had it to do over I might have chosen a less expensive muffler that would make a louder rumble at idle.
I apologize for being lazy and not looking up my actual sources for this muffler info. If you're keenly interested I could dig them up.

from Massachusetts. Great looking truck. Keep the cover. Never seen one like it. I put magnaflow mufflers with 2 1/2" pipe on my truck and am happy with it. Sounds great. Lenny
