Driving at the GVW

Post by 68Flatbed »

Ny pickup, with teh flatbed, is heavy. Weighed in at 5000 lbs on the scales. The flatbed is all steel, and there's half the weight over the rear axle. What can be expected by driving an f100 that's constantly pushing the GVW? I've already blown out a DANA 44 with it. I just want to know what I need to look for in wear, I.E., brakes, suspension, etc. It has been upgraded with Air Helper load-levelers, if that helps.

I would think springs is a worry. What rearend is in there now?

Find a 5 lug D60 to through under it.

We put a 9-inch under it after the 44 went out. I'm planning on eventually doing a frame swap with a F250 4x4, but that's going to be down the road a bit, I think.

I keep the load-levellers aired up a little bit, so I'm hoping it will help take pressure off the springs.

There ya go. The locker will be a Power-Loc and it might also be a 31 spline. If you are going to swap frames maybe you should just tough it out tell then.
