Bolt size?

Post by Georgia71 »

Hoping someone can tell me the bolt size for bed to frame bolts. Are they 7/16? I have the long bed. I think 4 are carriage bolts, and two are hex heads. Are the 4 carriage bolts the same lengths? I am picking some up locally hoping to save some money.

The bolt size is 1/2" dia.
On the left is a Ford bolt, head is about 1-3/16" dia. vs. the hardware store bolt, 1".
The crossmembers supporting the bed have steel spacers/sleeves, the larger diameter of the Ford bolt head is less likely to distort the bed floor when torqued down.
I can't recall exactly, but there are at least 2 lengths of carriage bolts, approx. 2- 4", and 4- 2-3/4" in length,
The bed-bolts from a 73-79 era may also work, and some of them have a phillips-head on top to help with removal.
Hope that helps!
