I'm looking for a steering column for my 71 Ford Ranger XLT.
Automatic Transmission.
I'd like to find a set up complete from the steering wheel down to the coupling hook up under the hood. I've never pulled/installed one before, but it looks like that would be the easiest way to go.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: 71 Ranger XLT Steering Column needed
Bob,
Tilt steering is one of the easiest upgrades we can do to our trucks-highly recommended. Here's a Bronco column that I know would bolt into the cab-but I'm not sure if the overall length would be different than the truck column? You'll also never see on for this price again-I believe he listed it funny so it doesn't show up for a lot of folks?

And here's the tilt steering tutorial:

I will add that there are a few variations to the tilt wiring that you may run into, but nothing you can't get past.

Re: 71 Ranger XLT Steering Column needed
My 71 truck does have power steering. I don't know whether this is a concern, or not. The tilt steering sounds nice. I may end up going that route. I'm just now starting to check around - an have limited cash right now. Thanks for the tips, guys!

Well, finally got with my mechanic today - first words outta his mouth were, "If you're going to do this, you ought to get a 78/79 Ford Steering Column w/Tilt Steering". Thanks, guys. I'm definitely considering that option. I really appreciate the info.

Re: 71 Ranger XLT Steering Column needed
Does it matter whether the 78/79 Bronco Tilt Steering is from a 4WD or not?
Does it matter whether or not it had Power Steering or Manual Steering?
Mine is Automatic Transmission w/Power Steering & 2WD.
Thanks,
Bob
