Greetings From an Old Ford Guy!

Post by Corkwheats »

Hi Folks,

Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving! We have much to be thankful for. One of them is our new 1971 Ford Ranger XLT. Check this out:

A friend of mine who has a shop in town knew that we were looking for a truck. We weren't going to have any money for one until we get our tax return, though. He had a 19 year old kid that was working part time at his place, and he called me and told me he had an old Ford Truck for sale.

I went to check out the truck, and test drove it. It was a "barn find". It had a total of 14,000 miles on it. The price: $900. I could have died! I didn't have the money, and knew it wouldn't be around long.

So, I sent out an e-mail to my friends and family asking them to pray, and see if somehow the Lord could bring this about. About a day or so later, my sister calls me, and says she has good news for me (I had nearly put the idea of getting the truck out of my mind). She tells me that her husband, Al, had put a check for $900 in the mail to me so I could get that truck! I immediately called to make sure that Josh still had the truck, and told him to take that for sale sign off it - he did. It's in my driveway now, guys.

The man who sent me the money as a gift is a real good person. He helps people all the time. In fact, he's an old Ford Man. He has a CHERRY 1974 F100, so when he heard that I was drooling over an old Ford truck w/360 V8, he "felt my pain". This same guy had a gorgeous 1968 Ford Torino GT Fastback w/390 many years ago. It was his brother who sold me my first ever car when I was 15 years old: a 1964 Ford Fairlane w/4 speed, dual exhaust, 4 Barrel, and you guessed it - 260 V8. I loved that car!

So, I guess you can see my Ford roots run deep. I'm happy to be here. I'm trying to get back into tinkering with these wonderful pieces of machinery after many years of being away from it. Expect me to ask some dumb questions as I work towards getting this old truck to where I want it. I'm just going to pump it up a bit - I want low end torque and power, not a race car. This puppy is going to be used here on the farm for pulling.

I'm very excited, and am just now doing some routine maintenance on it. But, I have big plans down the road. Glad to be a part of the Fordification Community. God Bless!

Welcome aboard! Glad you like your new truck!
Yes, we do have much to be thankful for. The poorest in America are still richer than 75% of the people in the world. Let's try to cultivate "an attitude of gratitude!"
