So I have my first dually: A '69 F350 extra long wheelbase chassis-cab. Pics tomorrow.
It's a "390" with a C6, and a 4.10:1 axle. The brakes don't work. Drums on the rear, of course, but also on the front! This MUST change, soon!
I've already replaced the timing set, just gotta figure out the pulleys.
I have an iron 4-barrel intake manifold for it, and a Carter AFB.
Wheels are 16.5" x 6" rear and 16.5" x 6.75" front, and I've borrowed a set of tubeless bias tires.
I added a pair of side-saddle fuel tanks so I can remove the one behind the seat. I got a switcher I need to install.
I have 2 other pairs of heads, and a confirmed 390 short-block assembly needing a rebuild.
I've begun work on a flatbed for it.
That's the present. Now for the near future:
Gotta buy some 16" dually wheels, probably used or from Southwest.
Gotta toss the standard-width, 7500#-rated open D70 for a dually-width 11K-rated Dana 80 with a limited-slip.
Gotta do some sort of overdrive, probably a 351W / AOD-Wide-ratio hybrid, maybe do it as a 387 stroker with self-ported, big-valved GT40P heads and a Comp Magnum 270 HR cam, Edelbrock 7181 intake, and Flowtech headers into dual 2.25" exhaust with Flowmasters. Then sell the running 390 / C6 combo.
Gotta do some body-nicening and interior-nicening. May just replace the entire cab with something else.
Anyone know if an '80s F150 cab would be remotely practical?
Otherwise I need a grille, both fenders, and maybe a front bumper. Plus a new seat.
The back wall has rust-through where the previous wooden cargo box chafed then rotted.
