I finally joined the best, most informative "bump" site. I have had at least one (sometimes more) in my driveway since I was 17 years old, which is to many to count. I am down to just one. It is a 1971 SWB stepside 2wd that was bought new in my home town by the local water company. It had a 4spd, 300 I6,radio delete, custom cab and 3.70 gear. The water company owner would always order stepsides, remove the fenders and bolt on toolboxes. This truck bounced around several owners but never left the area. A friend of mine got it with the 6 banger having a broken block. He changed it over to a 4bbl 302,power steering and power brakes. I had an '89 Mustang 5.0 convertible I received in a trade that my friend had to have and offered me a straight trade. I tried not to accept to quickly.
I went to school with the owner of the water company's son. He still owned the original building his Dad used. I called and went by, sure enough, the original rear fenders were still in the attic. For a quick $150.00 I now had the fenders with all the dust from 1971 to 2012. I have owned/built several 1/2 and 3/4 ton 4X4's including a 1969 Crew cab swb factory 4x4. I have also built several hot rod 2wd's so I did not know where to go with this build. The body is rust free (thank you Arizona) and very straight. Do I throw in a T5 or AOD trans, AC and cruise, change over to a pumped up FE with a toploader, try the Crown Vic suspension with a 5.4 or go back as original as possible (which I have never done) or something different.
I also own a 1969 Bronco and found out a few years ago that one of the original Bronco desert racers from the 60's lived in town. His name is Don Barlow. I was driving the truck and stopped by Don's house. He was helping his Grandsons build a desert racer from a '65 F 250 2wd. He ask what I was going to do with the truck and suggested an old school prerunner. Before I knew it I had gathered up a C4, factory auto column,F600 dash,6 old KC lights and a set (5) of 15x8 slotted mags. This build will be slower than I am used to because I work out of town 5 days a week and the truck is complete and fun to drive. I will gather more parts, including the Autofab 5" lift before starting.

Thanks. My stepson just sold a 1971 F-250 high boy like your avatar. I am not sure which of us was the saddest.
