First Bumpside from PA
Hello all, I live in Central PA about 30 miles north of State College, PA.
Last week I bought a 1970 F-350 flatbed dump. This is my first bumpside. I have had a 54 F-100 since 1977 which you can see below in my signature. I got it painted in 1999. It is in good shape but I have been using it as a truck not a show queen. I have always wanted an F-350 dump to keep my F-100 from getting scratched and dinged from hauling stuff. I found this '70 near Pittsburgh. It has a longer bed (12 foot) than I wanted (it has a 159" wheel base) but it was a bargain I couldn't pass up. I needed a running truck as my '54 is not running right now and this one fit the bill. I used it today to take a load of brush and yard waste to the local landfill. It gets lots of admiring looks. It used to be a stakebed, but the PO said the stakes were in sad shape so he fabbed the bed you see. It looks rather nice... I will post more pics when I take some. I want to paint the headboard beige to match the bed sides...

from choo-choo town. Kinda' hard to tell from your picture, is your truck a DRW F-350 or a SRW F-350?
There's quite a few of us flat bed owners here-I know I love mine!

Re: First Bumpside from PA
Jealous of the dump bed Abe, I believe there are only three or four here on DRW F-350 trucks.

Re: First Bumpside from PA
Thanks, Guys! I love my '54; I should since I got it in college in 1977 from my grandfather. And that is why I wanted an F350 flatbed dump, so I could quit using my 54 as a worktruck. It has gotten scratches and dings from hauling mulch, junk, brush, etc... I have been looking on ebay, craigslist and the local papers for a truck. I would have preferred a 53-56 truck but I am really pleased with the '70. The PO put power steering in and a heavy duty radiator. He also redid the bed as the original stakes were rotted and gone and he rewired the bed lights and taillights. The truck I bought had to be a running working truck. When I could not find a 53-56 F-350 I thought any old Ford would do. The bed is longer than what I needed but the longer wheel base gives it a smooth ride. I dumped a load of brush on Friday. How nice! much better than throwing it off by hand! I will post pics soon.basketcase0302 wrote:Jealous of the dump bed Abe, I believe there are only three or four here on DRW F-350 trucks.

Here are some pics of my first load of brush with new 70 F-350. It was a fun trip to the dump? No charge for dumping brush... they recycle it into mulch.
