adjustable drag link

Post by boots »

Im going to be buying a whole front rebuild kit for my truck in a few days. This means, Kingpins, tie rods, drag link and bushings (already have radius arm bushings though) I was on auto fab website and saw that with evey lift they sell, they give you a "drag link machined for adjuster". Here is the link http://autofab.com/5lift.htm at the bottom it tells all about it.

Do you guys think I should buy that because my truck is lifted. I can not see it doing me much more than a stock one, because I dropped my i-beams, dropped my radius arm, and am going to drop my pitman arm. I dont see much wrong with using a brand new stock one. And If I did buy that autofab one would have to buy everything but the drag link seperatly to rebuild my front end, and would probably run me for more money since im not buying a kit. also My truck had very scary steering with just dropped i-beams and 4" lift coils. so to fix this (as most of you know) im dropping the radius arms for caster, and getting all new front end parts. What do you guys think? go stock drag link or no?

btw. the stock kit I was looking at is here http://www.p-s-t.com/truck/tvfekpg.html for 249 bucks.

From what I know of your project, I don't see you as needing a special piece. All your steering and suspension components are still in a relatively stock location in conjunction with each other, aren't they....they're just farther away from the frame. The only thing I would think you'd need would be a dropped Pitman arm for the steering box.

That PST package you're looking at is the same one I got for my truck, BTW.

Well, I haven't hit the road with it yet, but I was pleased with what I got. Everything appears to be excellent quality and worth the money.

Boots with the drop pitman arm you'll be fine. Just like Keith said everything is in the same locations and just dropped in stock geometry.

Try these guys they have some quality stuff. I got my crossover drag link made to specs from them and my 2nd pitman arm after I bent the 1st. I got the extreme one that you can index at any position. Good guys. http://bulletproofsteering.com/pitmanarms.html

so all ford pitman arms are 36 spline 1-1/8" also, since my truck is 2wd, can i get a 4wd pitman arm? on the site 460 posted it does not say 4wd or 2wd for the pre-79 ford arm.

I called them a few minutes ago, they said I have to give them a bunch of measurements before so they can see if they have one. I think im just going to order the jc.whitney one and see if it fits, if it dont ill send it back to them. do you know if it makes a difference if you have manual steering?

I also ordered the PST kit today, and im Thinking that maybe I should put everything on with stock pitman arm, drive it and see how it steers.
