Prowled Pick-A-Part looking for various things, wheels, tires, dash pad, etc. Found that 16" wheels and tires from later model F250s are pretty common, they want $27 each for the wheel with tire. Good price? The tires are decent radials, usually in the 235/85 range of sizes.

Found a 72' with a perfect dash pad for $15. Are they hard to remove?

Man this truck is cold blooded! Better warm it up a lot, and it will still be sluggish for a bit. Once it warms up it drives quite well now, after fixing and plugging the various vacuum leaks and accelerator pump problem.

Thinking of keeping the original paint, using some rust remover and then buffing the heck out of it and maybe spray a clear coat over that. Keeping some of the survivor through time look, I dunno.

If you've found a good dash pad, GRAB IT! If you don't need it, a lot of guys here do. Not too bad to get off. Here's a couple of threads that'll give you some input on how. Don't forget some bandaids! http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... ad+removal and http://ww.fordification.com/forum/viewt ... ce040f8453

Welcome from another newbie and congratulations on your '72 find . Your new old truck will grow on you. I bought my '70 F100 thinking I'd clean it up and re-sell it and make a little money. Nope - it's grown on me and now here for the long term. I too sit on the fender to work under the hood.

Welcome. Cool truck!! I did the same in June. Sprung for a custom ordered '67 Camper Spl and (I'm told) paid too much. But hey! I figured I have no rust to fix and the whole thing's straight! Like you though I have lots of "deferred maintenance" items. Nothing like climbing into the engine compartment, mounting up a 27" TV on the other side and watching some football while changing a steering gear!!! :hd:

Enjoy!!

Thanks again for all the welcomes. I guess I ought to start a build thread, so I will do that and post the address here for anyone interested in how the truck progresses. So here is the build thread:

vwfreak, are you into VWs as well? (given your handle) I've owned a share of them also, 69' Baja Bug, 77' Westfalia Bus, 79' diesel Rabbit and 84' of the same. Fun cars.

I am. Or was.... Still have a '70 beetle my aunt brought home brand new. Will likely always have it. It's a fun car to drive when the weather is cool enough. Attention is on the truck at the moment though LOADS to do to get it up to scratch. If I run stuck on $$ one day I'll sell the truck. Don't want to put too much into the VW and be forced to sell it so I just keep it serviceable.

which is why you should have handed over $1000 bucks for it.
But WTF, its a great looking truck. Get it in shape, and you'll be happy to have it. Easy to work on, everyone likes them.
As for your bed, try to get it repaired right at a good body shop. Nice truck!
