new guy from SC

Post by fordxtwo »

I ran across the site when i was researching and trying to determine if my 68 was original by decoding the vin. I have been visting the site for a few months and learned quiet a bit. a big thank you to whoever posted the atricles on how to decode the vins.I'm from upstate SC,38 yrs old, married. i own a 68 & 72 f100, both swb and factory auto trans. bought the 68 (built in canada) several months ago to use as a dialy driver 240 6 cyl, auto trans. it's 90% original and in really good condition .it runs, drives & rides as good as a new truck. i've owned the 72 (built in norfold,va) since 1992 when i inherited it from my dad. it's in really rough shape due to my neglect of leaving sitting under trees for 18 yrs @ my grandmothers homestead. dad had a camper cover on it that i never removed. the inside of the bed is still in perfect condition (no rust or dents). there's only two small rust spots on the entire truck (passenger side of bed, corner of driver door). since grandmother passed a few years ago someone stole the 302 engine, C4 auto trans, grille, front bumper, radiator, every piece of stainless, aliminum and chrome. i found all this out a few weeks ago when i took a trip to grandmothers homestead. i went back a week later & brought the truck back to my house while trying to decide what's best to do with the remaining.since the truck has only a little bit of rust (I guess the trees and grime protecting it from the beaming sun helped). I decided since it was my dad's and i know i will never sell it due to sentimental value. I decided i will honor my dad and put it back on the road while modifying & painting it to suit me. I know modding cars/trucks/ motorcycles hurts resale due to someone may not like what i like. as i stated, i will never sell it and it will be passed down to my son. i look forward to continue readig articles to learn new things and contribute where my knowlege allows.

Welcome from Indiana...

I can't believe, well I guess I can, that some low life would strip your truck. I hope you get it put back together the way you want, eventually.

Good Luck...

thanks diamond n, yeah it was a shock to me also that someone stripped all the expensive parts. i was furious because i feel like they stole from a dead man (my dad). however, my anger has turned to motivation. I found a really good used front end from a guy. I purchased the front bumber, gravel guard, marker lights, hood w/ letters & hinges, innner & outter fenders, grille, headlight bezels, tailgate w/hinges , a door w/ handles- armrest-lock-glass-window regulator still intact that works, every interior switch w/ bezels - the guy even had the keys for the locks & switch , allfor $250.00. I was skeptical. but, he showed me the title with his name on it. he tried to get me to buy the whole truck body. I may have if the bed wasn't full of rust & creased the entire length on passenger side. I was so happy about his asking price of $250 that i didn't even try to negotiate. i continue to search the web to get ideas. I've read alot about the crown vic front end, a bit about jaguar. it's looks fairly easy & would provide disc brakes and should offer a smoother ride as well a lower stance that i desire ?

:wel: from choo-choo town. I spent two years in Charleston on a nuclear powered sub years ago in the USN-such a beautiful state you live in.

I did the exact same thing with BC #16, (my truck)-could really give diddly squat what anyone else thought about my build.
Did it to pass along to my Son when the time comes.
And oh yeah, I'll do it before someone else does...

I say, make it your own and build it the way you want. Your not building it to sell, your building it to drive!
