Brit F100 truck lover

Post by ADE ROWBERRY UK »

Greetings from the UK!
I have wanted a pick up truck for most of my adult life & end of last summer I was thrilled to stumble across bought a 1978 F100 Custom 302, 8 foot bed here in the UK.
I am trying to find out as much about it as possible; it was - I understand - restored in Louisiana about 6-7 years ago & then shipped over here.
VIN F10GNDE3905 - if anyone can advise on how to research its colour (not sure if this is on the VIN tag or not) & its general history (previous US based owners etc.) then that would be great. Looking forward to getting to know my truck & Fordification readers!

:wel: from the west coast of the USA. If you haven't already, you should also check out the sister site, www.fordification.net, it is devoted to 73-79 Ford trucks.

:wel: from So. California!! To research your truck further, you might want to order the deluxe Marti Report on your truck from https://www.martiauto.com/reports2.cfm

That will give you all the info on your truck when it was made, from the actual dates it was ordered, built, shipped, where it was built, what dealership sold it, and what all the factory options were on it, including trim packages and colors.

Hi from California. I just bought myself one of these trucks myself.

Let's see if I can get it right on decoding your VIN number based on the info on the 73'-79' FORDification site.

F10 means it's an F100

G means it had a 302 V-8 with a 2bbv carb.

N means it was made in Norfolk, Virginia.

DE3905 means it's a 1978 model.

I think that's right, anyone feel free to correct me if I got it wrong.

Welcome from Indiana...

The paint code(s) for your truck was originally located on a tag affixed to the left side door jamb, unless it was removed during the restoration. Where in the UK are you located? I lived there a number of years ago, for a while.

Hello back,
& thanks everyone for the advice - as I have some paintwork to do, the martiauto report may prove worthwhile - tks Calfdemon for the advice.
When I bought this truck, people thought I was mad (given our gas prices are so high); it's funny how when we've gone cycling, or had furniture to move, it has come in very handy.......
Hello Diamond N - I live in Malvern, a small sleepy town located halfway between Birmingham & Bristol in the Midlands - quite open country here, good for trucking!
Concerning paint codes; toward the bottom of my VIN tag (on the driver door pillar) it says exterior colour (on the left) & then on the right in a separate box the codes 'F0139' above 'TO437' - are these the paint codes perhaps? How do I establish what (Ford) exterior colour these codes correspond to pls? Appreciate your help.
