Except it has 68 heater controls. Maybe they were out of 67 controls by the time they built your truck.

Ah I didnt catch that part. I re-read. it could go a couple ways, like you suggest they could have simply ran out. Or they just retrofitted the truck with slider controls later on ( I have seen at least two trucks that have had this done) or its secretly a later cab with 67 parts hung all over it.
