C6 speedometer drive gear needed
I've been looking for a speedometer gear set for a truck style, bolt on yoke, short tail shaft C6 transmission. It would be nice to get both gears but I can reuse my driven gear if necessary.
Thanks in advance, Evan

I can't seem to locate one for you. It's only like this on the short tailshaft C6. I'm wondering if a transfer case speeo drive gear is the same

I appreciate the help Bobby and yea they are a booger to find. Very few junkyards have our bumps around here and the ones they do have are straight shifts. And transmission shops can't get the obsolete part from any vendor of course. I'm hoping I'll get lucky and get a hold on one through the forum. It's probably my best bet.

And do you know of the gear is part of the output shaft or not? I read somewhere that it might be but I don't think it is

The drive gear is not part of the shaft on a short shaft C6. It is part of the output shaft on a long shaft, slip yoke type.evan_flatt69 wrote:And do you know of the gear is part of the output shaft or not? I read somewhere that it might be but I don't think it is
They are made of metal and don't normally go bad (meshed with a plastic driven gear). What happened to yours?

Re: C6 speedometer drive gear needed
I had the transmission rebuilt and from that point on the speedo didn't work. I haven't been able to get the yoke nut off yet so I can't get the piece off to see exactly what's going on but I can't see or feel any teeth inside through the speedometer hole. But when I put the old gear in it looks like something was grinding the gear. I'll post some pics when I can.

The thing that gets me is that you can't see any teeth on what I think is the drive gear in the trans. I guess they were ground off somehow but it also looks like the lack of teeth is what destroyed the driven gear.

You need to get the extension housing off and see whats going on in there. *BE CAREFUL* when you pull the extension housing off. On short tailshaft C6's there is no C-clip on the reverse planetary ring gear holding the tailshaft from coming out when you remove the extension housing. Keep forward pressure on the tailshaft when removing the extension housing.

Yea, that's what I plan on doing but I need to get a 1.5" socket for the impact first. I also just bought a new seal to fix my leak.

Here is what I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Truck-C6-T ... 54&vxp=mtr
Did I make a hasty decision and get the wrong seal?

Darn :/ looks like I wasted some money. I asked my local speed shop and they didn't have and couldn't get it. You know what they say about assuming...
