Hello from Vermont.

Post by Uncle Tom »

Greetings from Northern Vermont...

My experience with Ford Trucks starts with my Grandfather, who bought a brand new 1968 F100 4x4, 306cid, 4sp, in Rangoon Red with a fisher snowplow. It was his shop truck and was used to clean the shop yard and go to hunting camp. I can remember sitting next to him as he cleaned the yard and later over the bumpy mud hole filled road that went to Hunting camp. It was always a treat to ride in the old Ford with Grandpa. In the mid 80's my uncle gave me that truck, after he got it stuck up to the doors, in the swamp behind his house. Never under estimate the will power of youth. It took a shovel, jack, and a 1972 F700 power company line truck with a winch on it to free her. My automotive knowledge was expanded over the next year as I got her back on the road in time for my Senior year. Then college, she sat next to the barn occassionally driven on weekends or as needed to move stuff. Then more sitting while I started a career. The mid 90's found her called to service once again. I was married, a new home owner, a kid on the way, in need of a truck to clean my yard and haul stuff and short on $$$. I rebuilt her with Salvage yard sheetmetal, a F250 frame, and power disk brakes. She spent the next few years earning her keep by plowing yards and pulling out stuck vehicles on our road. Fast foward to now, My 16yr old son is looking for a "cool ride" so shes out of the barn once more and in my workshop. He is in love with her, she sits taller stock then all of his friends trucks. The tired 360, 4sp is giving way to a 351w and 5sp, other upgrades to follow "like a kick ass stereo, Dad".... Oh well, what could be better than passing on some skills and an old Ford truck that has a lot of family history??
