New member; Hi to all

Post by 500 »

Here's my back story. I had an '01 F150 SuperCrew that I wrecked (long story); bought an '08 Charger R/T to replace it. Always been a Ford fan. My Dad had a restored '78 F150 for years until it got totaled (another story). Always liked the older models, and am now in the process of looking for a solid '70's or '80's F100 or F150 Short Bed 2WD or 4WD for a part time driver and mild project restore; which led me to here. I have a Craigslist lead on a '72 F100 Short Bed. Looking for advice on it and what to look for and watch out for before jumping into it. Thanks for the welcome.

Hi and welcome...

Like any other ride... you have to watch out for rot. On these old things the common spots are... rad support... inner fender up by the hood hinges... cab mounts... on the 67-72's the seam in the bed... and of course the "regular rot spots on any vehicle like fenders and wheel wells and door bottoms etc.

Far as the mechanicals goes that's stuff that's easy enough to replace. Take it for a ride and it'll tell you a lot about that aspect of the truck. Myself... I'd pick a sound frame and body with junk motor over the opposite any day.

Be carefull of buying a pig with lipstick on. Just cause it's shiney doesn't mean it's worth more or the better deal over one with some surface rust.

Good luck...!!
