New to Site with 72 F100

Post by frankentrucks »

Hello all

I've been trolling this site for years, but just decided to finally join. I've owned Fords for years, and have used information here to help build the 65 F100 still have, and recently picked up a 72 F100 Custom long bed that I'm working to improve for use as an efficeint daily driver. Currently has a swapped in 78-ish 351W to replace the original G-code 302 and a 3.03 column shift trans and 3.25 rear gears. Truck has a mild front end lift with what look like tall tower F250/F350 prings with a the upper pigtail cut off to fit the bucket. It's a solid 2 owner truck with a relatively straight body, zero rust, and one quality but budget repaint of the medium blue metallic.

So far, aside from simple maintenance, all I have done is replace the worn out original seat with a nice seat from a 74 truck (little bit wider, much thicker foam for less bounce, best modification so far!!!), replace the blown, ornamental shock absorbers, replace the repair some of the questionable wiring 'upgrades' the previous owner made, replaced the 3/4 style rear leaf springs with proper F100 style springs, replaced the ugly two-spoke steering wheel with a much prettier earlier model 3 spoke wheel, and replaced/upgraded a few trim pieces, such as swapping on 67 style hood emblems and 69 style rear taillight trim and reflectors. Pretty happy so far.

Future upgrades include oval slot mags with 33-inch all terrains, Autofab fiberglass front fenders, full front suspension rebuild with disc brakes, power steering, and dual shocks, air conditioning, a passenger car style Toploader 4 speed, and tweaking the smog era 351W for improved mileage/performance.

Ultimate goal is a comfortable, street friendly truck with respectable power and economy and entry level off road capability, using the early NORRA / SCORE trucks as inspiration for a period style truck.

Looking forward to joining the Fordification community. Thanks

Brett
