1971 F250 Camper

Post by shuayjye »

Hello Everyone,
I am in California in the bay area. I believe my truck has about 97000 miles on it. I found about about this site through Ford-Trucks.com and that site has been very useful to getting my truck running, even though in the end my dad just cleaned the battery terminals and it started cranking (took me over a year of fiddling with the it and he fixes it in a morning -.-) and we found out that I put the starter rely on upside down. We replaced the start wire since it was broken behind the dash so we just ran a new wire instead of finding the old wire. I will need to do an oil change and see where is leaking. Also the roof leaked (seal broke) so I removed the top card board (I think) and will try to remove everything in the cab to make sure everything is okay.
Now the truck is running again will be reading up on everyone's advice. Excited to get my truck back on the road (have to wait until registration comes again around September to register it).

Thank for all the reply, I have had this truck for about 7 years (my first car, 240sx died). This was my second car that I used to for a year to take me to Community College then went to UCSD for three years so it was only driven on and off during that time (Mom told me the truck would likely blow up on a trip of that distance). Once I got back this was not an ideal 20-30 mile commute and stopped working a year ago.
Today I drained out the oil (really odd place for the drain plug... above a large bar) and replaced the oil filter. I will try to make this into a reliable truck for picking up furniture and picking up large items from stores. Ideally I would love to get a camper back on this truck so my kids can enjoy the great outdoors but i think I am getting ahead of myself.
Oh and pictures, my mom commented how my truck needs a paint job but I think I should get everything else taken care of first. Since I am new to this forum should I just open a project thread for my truck? I have tons of things on my to do list and would love to get some inputs from others.

I hope this works... always uploaded pictures to the forum directly.

Sweet truck man! Its probably a better idea to get the mechanicals worked out first then you can concentrate on making it look pretty.
