Hello from Ann Arbor, MI and Two Initial Questions

Post by wilgusj »

Hi there,

As others have said, I was very pleased to find this site. Thanks to all the moderators and posters who keep it going! I'm planning to rebuild my Grandpa's 1972 Ford F-252 - Explorer Edition, Camper Special and have a couple initial questions:

1) Any recommendations on a good auto transport carrier to ship my truck from Southern CA to Ann Arbor, MI?

2) Any recommendations on restoration manuals or books that I could begin reading as a guide? I'm generally pretty handy, but am by no means a car expert (and I've never rebuilt or restored one), so I'm gonna need all the help I can get. Want to make sure I get started on the right foot.

Thanks to everyone in advance for any thoughts you might share...

Welcome from North Carolina, you may get more responses to your questions if you put them in the General section of the forum. I think a fair more of the smarter folks will read it there vs. here.

Welcome from northern Cali. By the way, it is way too far to ship that bump, would you like my address so you can save some money and have it shipped here? :D

Welcome to the site....If you get a chance, post a pic of your bump on the site so we can see it! Hopefully it is not blue with a big maize block M on the doors!

Welcome from So Cal.

Buy yourself a Ford Factory Repair Manual. It's five (5) volumes and goes for about $75 on eBay. All repair manuals are out of print so grab what you can when you can. This sight is probably a better source of "how-to" than any book you can buy.

If your truck is drive-able, it will probably cost less to drive it. (and if it's reliable) We drove our 70 from So Cal to Ohio and back last summer.

I would check with a local auto auction (the places that are open only to dealers) and find out who they use, and see if you can piggyback your truck onto a load coming your way. You can check online with several...but can usually get a better deal speaking to a human.
too many Fords, no where near 'nuff time.

or, money.
