Cold start

Post by zombiekiller »

Hey I new to this site and old ford trucks. What can I do to get my 1970 f100 302 2bbl to start more quickly? Right now the heat duct is not connected to the exhaust manifold. Just purchased two weeks ago and love old trucks.

Welcome Zombie killer for SoCal. With mostly sunny weather here few people think about carb chokes but this is usually the root of all starting problems (unless your motor is flat worn out) A heat riser from the exhaust is helpful only after you have started the motor and it begins to warm up. My 1970 390 still needs several pumps of the pedal and a final full floor pump to set the choke door before it will start on the first try. Check the engine forum section and find related issues other guys have had in the past. There are great answers.
