Hello from WA

Post by SmoothJ69 »

Hi all, live outside seattle. Own a 69 F250 CS\Ranger\Explorer. In decent shape but there's always something to do ;-) ..sadly missing the 390\CS emblems on this side, guessing the drivers fender was replaced at some point. See, something else to do lol.

Welcome from Victoria. Were practically neighbors! Nice looking truck you got there. I am always amazed at how many bumps there are in Washington compared to here. :wel:

thanks,..the wheels are actually just Ultra wheels from Les Schwab, 17x9 8-lugs with Toyo Proxes 275\60r17's. They were on the truck when I bought it. I actually (think) I got a decent deal, rims\tires have less than 2k miles (i have the receipt with the mileage on it when they were purchased ~6 years ago for 1700 bucks), the engine was rebuilt around the same time with an edelbrock intake\1406 carb, the transmission was replaced with a c6 just a couple hundred miles before I got it. It has no real major rust issues (just some minor surface stuff on the bed), the paint is a 20 footer but it has all the parts it came with minus a couple trim pieces and the engine bay parts to the AC. I paid 1600.

It was filthy and it had some issues; hard start when it was warm and the engine seemed a little weak for being 'rebuilt' so I did a tune up on it, oil\filters, etc. When I went to replace the dizzy cap the whole thing turned in my hand, the dizzy was loose, who knows how long it was like that. So after replacing cap\rotor\wires\plugs, throwing an accel eliminator kit and 40k coil at it (and setting the timing\securing the dizzy :-P).. replaced all the battery\starter cables, fixed the choke linkage that was rubbing against the accelerator linkage (causing it all to stick!) the truck starts instantly and runs\drives great,

It still has some problems, I just replaced the headlight switch to make the dash lights start working again then hit the dimmer switch which promptly stuck down and killed my headlights lol. Replaced that the other day, put a new windshield washer jug & pump in last night, need to get some hose for it. its going in on Tuesday to have the windshield replaced otherwise that would have been lower on the priority list. I have a set of shocks sitting here waiting for the weather to get better (or for me to finally clean the garage and make space ha!) Slowly but surely I'll get it to where I want it but its a solid base to work off of. I saw a lot of rust buckets\barely running rigs when I started looking to buy something.

In regards to the color its originally supposed to be Tucson Gold, was repainted a pastel yellow at some point and then the blue was put on probably 6-7 years ago guessing from the condition. You can still see the yellow in places, like between the cab\bed. I'm considering going back to a gold color but I do like the blue. The interior is still the original yellow, still has the original bench with the yello\black tweed (covered by a blue horse blanket type seat cover). I plan on making the interior all black at some point. Like I said, there is always something to do.

How did you determine that it was a camper special and 390? I think if there is a Y in the vin its a 360, and a H is a 390. for it to be a camper special it usually has the Dietz front side marker lights, and electrical lines for a tow hitch. I'm not sure if there is any other evidence for it besides the emblems.

The door tag\vin number has 390 code and the original Tucson Gold (also from the door tag) was a color only used that year on a "special" fully loaded CS\Ranger\Explorer (or so I've read), the seat is the original black with a black\yellow like..checked looking inset. It has all the power lines for a trailer\hitch (or at least little extra plugs) behind the license, side tool box, extra tank with the switch on the dash to swap the fuel gauge (tho its not connected and doesn't work). it has most of the chrome trim (everything except those side rails pretty much), the ranger grille, etc. everything it has on the truck matches the door tag (AC\PS etc) so I have no reason to believe the tag's been swapped.

It does have power lines that look like they should go to some sort of marker on the lower front part of the front quarters but there is no light there and the connector is just hanging, maybe both fenders were replaced..it doesn't look like there were holes filled there but I haven't looked all that close. It still has the holes for the cowboy mirrors that were replaced with those pos plastichrome ones by a PO so I doubt they would have bothered to fill in a light hole on the fender...although, there are no holes anywhere on the side that would hold that side chrome piece so ..who knows, I suppose its possible that it really was some 'special' one that didnt have the lights or that trim.

well its pretty cool if its a 390 ranger. in my opinion thats better than a camper special in terms of being special.

Well it has Ranger badges on the tail, has the ranger grille\blackened headlight bezels. Has Explorer on the glovebox and the color code is an Explorer only color. I just can't imagine someone would go to all the trouble to try to fake it out and put the ranger badging on it..the grill is in really good shape, its straight and not dented at least, the headlight bezels notsomuch lol. , it does have pretty much every option, the full cluster, cargo light, ac, pdb, ps, it had a radio, or the hole\tabs for it are there at least.

I agree tho, Ranger is the coolest..I don't really care about the CS but the ranger 'regailia' adds a little something I think.

I went out and looked at the tag, its an H. here is the rest of it:

131 D F254 O (or a 0 maybe) 81 G 37
