I have a 1966 F100 which used to be my dad's and it is SICK!! Carb problems out the wazoo...probably because my dad did so much Alabama Field Engineering to it.

The truck was born with a straight 6 engine, column mounted shift and 3 speed manual tranny. Halfway through the truck's 50 year life span, Dad and his favorite nephew found a good 3 speed Ford-o-matic and shoved it into the hole where the manual one used to be. And it works OK, I guess. I mean, he literally ran the original engine til it gave way to old age. Just prior to my putting a new engine in, compression testing found the highest pressure in any of the 6 cylinders was 12 psi...and it still ran.

Anyway, I had a rebuilt engine stuck into it and the problems began. The guy who did the work said he couldn't get the engine to stay crunk with the old carb. He put a new one (Auto Zone, I think) on and it ran OK enough that I had to pay him. Well, it's 6 mo down the pike now and, while it idles pretty good and starts well, it just will not accelerate without bogging down and dying.

I'm also learning that there may not be enough "stuff" on the carb. Seems that an automatic tranny/carb combo is different than a manual tranny/carb truck. Hard to get my head around all the stuff that MIGHT be wrong while keeping in mind that there's been some "unnatural acts" performed on it in the past COUPLED with what may well have been an incompetent engine change.

Anyway, I'm here to learn and then try to figure my way out of this conundrum.

Welcome from SoCal. It sounds like you have a handful of #&%#$ but that's they way I like it. Get to the tech section of this site and start by finding what was made for that engine and tranny combo. and take one thing at a time. Everyone will jump on board to help. Be sure to post under the correct area with each topic so guys that are good with it (like carbs) can find you.
