Another Tennessean
Wow - another new user very glad to have found this website. I'm sipping from the firehose trying to learn about my "new" 71 F100. Quite a find ... 76K original miles after sitting in a barn for a couple of decades.
Maybe I can get some initial advice ... where do I look for diagrams to identify the various parts under the hood. Most of it is intuitive, but I'm seeing an orifice attached to the distributor (vacuum of some kind) that doesn't have tubing/hose attached. There's another missing hose that looks like it should attach up by the air cleaner. If I'm already asking questions in the wrong place just smack me ... I'm new to forums too.
Just got my used Chiltons manual trying to figure this out. Watched my Dad do all the work on his 67 F100, but those lessons are long forgotten - glad I can find a LOT of answers here.Maybe I can get some initial advice ... where do I look for diagrams to identify the various parts under the hood. Hey...another "newby" from the Volunteer state.
from choo-choo town.
Sound like maybe your hose to the "cannister", (distributor vacuum advance) has broken and the other piece is what's laying there at your air cleaner, (it should actually attach at the bottom of the carb.
Lot of cool folks here to help out-ask away.
And hey this is coming up real soon-your officially invited!

Re: Another Tennessean
Good day AvodahFarm,
Gosh your truck looks like a real beauty! Well done on your purchase, and on your good fortune.
When I've sought to identify a number of components like that, I've found that one good way's to take a photo of the general area. Then, using photo editing software on the computer, put letters next to each component that you'd like identified. When that's ready, put the photo in a thread and folks will happily tell you what each part is.
Here's an example of a time I used this method with great results (thank to all who responded to me back then): Could I ask for advice on attaching my Teleflex/V3 gauges?
You have to scroll down a ways but you'll see those photos with letters over the "unknowns."

Re: Another Tennessean
New here myself, liking it so far. That's a real nice looking truck that you found there. If I may offer one bit of advice that has served myself well, is to purchase the original Ford shop manuals for the year of your truck. Old originals can still be found on E-bay, and if you look around on it a bit can come up with a set that doesn't break the bank. They really are a valuable resource to anyone owning one of these older vehicles. E-Bay is also a good source to find parts as well. While I'm at it, here is my short list of part vendors for ya as well, they can be found on the internet and can send you a catalog as well. LMC Truck, Dennis Carpenter, Macs Auto Parts, and Blue Oval Truck Parts, between them have just about anything for these old trucks. There may be others these are just the ones I know of. Good luck and happy truckin'.

from Georgia! I bought my manuals on CD from Detroit Iron http://www.detroitironis.com/FordMotorCompany.html It's just scans from the original manuals. No substitute for the paper ones though.
