Hello from Orange, CA!
Hi all-
I thought I'd finally get a couple of photos up here and introduce myself- I'm a long-time lurker here on the Fordification Forums.
My truck is a '72 f100 Custom. 390 with Edelbrock Performer intake and carb, Hedman Headers into new 2.25" dual exhaust. Newly rebuilt C6 and Ford rearend. I bought this truck about six months ago as an extremely solid driver, having had the engine and tranny recently rebuilt. It had most of the interior missing as well as all of the badges, a handful of small dings and quite possibly the worst rattle can paint job ever- including flat black over the bump and entire grill. Needless to say I lost some skin stripping all of that off!
Work I've done since includes body work and (20ft) paint job, all new hood trim, front bumper and exterior badges, replacing all the front-end bushings, new gaskets at the rearend, new tires, dual exhaust into 24" glasspacks, Pertronix ignition, turn signal switch, column mounted tach, Grant steering wheel, door panels, armrests, handles and dashcap. I've had an alarm installed with hood switch and electric door locks for keyless entry.
She's slowly getting to where I want her to be: a solid driving pickup that's nice to look at but by no means a showpiece. I need a truck for truck things, so I can't afford to be worried about throwing crap in the bed or spilling coffee on my seats. I plan on getting a spray-in bedliner soon, working out some lingering electrical gremlins (PO did some less-than-masterful trailer wiring that's giving me fits), and getting the seat reupholstered. From there I'll be happy to slow down and take 'er easy for a while.
Anywhoo- thanks everybody here for providing such a fantastic resource for all of us! I'm pretty green when it comes to turning wrenches- but this site has given me the courage to dive into a lot of this truck and it couldn't be more fun!
Oh yeah-

Nice truck and I would LOVE to hear what alarm/keyless entry system you used for your truck. I am currently shopping for the same type of system for my crew cab. Any input on the system you used and any pros/cons would be great!!

Re: Hello from Orange, CA!
Thanks! I am unsure about the specifics of the door locking mechanisms, but I need to get into the doors again soon to tighten a loose side-view mirror, and I will analyze them and get back to you then. The alarm system is the most basic Viper kit. I had the whole thing installed at Best Buy (I know, I know). I was only charged $30/door for the locking mechs and install. They were having a sale on the alarms and free install of alarm systems at the time, so the whole deal out the door- alarm kit, two door locking kits, and install was $200. The kid even fabricated and wired up a little alarm switch for the hood, free of charge.Calfdemon wrote: from Santa Clarita, CA!!

My only gripe is that sometimes the driver's side lock will sag down a smidge, re-locking itself following an unlock. This happens only occasionally, and only on the driver's side. I am 99% sure if and when I pop off the panel again I will be able to move the mech up a bit to eliminate this issue. Otherwise I am very happy with the system.

Re: Hello from Orange, CA!
Thanks Ed! This picture was taken just up the hills from my city, a favorite drive of mine. One of my friends commented that it looks as if it could have been an old Ford ad from the 70's. Either way, it was a beautiful day here yesterday and following a fresh coat of carnauba a photo session seemed in order.thrush544 wrote: Howdy from SE PA!

Re: Hello from Orange, CA!
Thanks all for the welcome!
Thanks for the kind words! It sure didn't feel as if I'd done too much work to the truck until I wrote it all down here! The truck was a great starting point with virtually zero rust and a strong newly rebuilt engine and tranny that needed no attention.69FLATBED wrote:If it was as bad as you say, you've done a lot of hard work and it looks like it has paid off!
