Man that frame looks good, I remember when I was about your neighborhood boys age, I'd stick my nose in everytime I could when my neighbor started working on his Nova, They may not realize it yet, but these arethe times in there lives they'll never forget and there lucky to have you teach them a little something about restoring and working on cars, Good Job

I love that you have the neighborhood kids helping. Is great teaching them a skill and that working with your hands is not a bad thing. They are the future of the hobby. Looking foward to more pictures

Getting ready to run down to harbor freight and get some blasting media so I can clean up the last bit of parts!
That took all of five minutes right? I know right where the HF is in Brandon, had stopped there a few times. Grocery store in the same plaza, but can't remember the name...

Looking good still, I also agree with the moisture issue. I've never used the walnut shells but bet they would be more sensitive to moisture? :hmm:

sargentrs wrote:Could be the moisture. I use a old Sears model. Just a plastic pot with a suction hose on the bottom and a $10 gun pushing 100psi @ about 10cfm. I tried some of that play sand from Home Depot but my gun wouldn't pull it. I use Black Diamond Fine Fury from Tractor Supply. It's a 30-60 grit coal slag media and my gun pulls it just fine. The coal slag doesn't hold moisture like sand does. Surface finish isn't too rough and it cuts through gunk pretty good too.
I will have to try it, I don't have to many more things to get done. The biggest thing being the springs for the front end. I really need to get those cleaned up. I need to see if I have a Tractor Supply close.

Ha Ha Your right, I did get them a pizza, actually 2 large pizzas, and poof they where gone.
robroy wrote:'Afternoon Ford4x4Fun,

I love these photos you've posted lately! It looks like a lot happening in a short amount of time.

Do you have any air driers installed between your compressor and your blaster? I guess different compressors produce different amounts of water in the air, yet with the setup I've used before two cheap Sears driers in series were essential to avoid moisture-related clogs. The driers were about $50 each.

And I heartily second Sargentrs's Black Diamond recommendation. That stuff is a lot cheaper than anything else I've found, and it really works well. It's all I'd consider using anymore. But it's certainly a lot more harsh than the walnut shells.

Robroy
Thanks Robroy, Yeah we have been hitting it hard. Trying to clean her up some and drive her before it gets to hot here in FL. I have one drier in the line that came with the setup, but I honestly think it isn't doing a good job and with my compressor your right I probably need more like 3 of those dryers. I will really look into the Black Diamond, and see how it works.

Thanks it did turn out good! I enjoy them coming around, for more than one reason. First I didn't want to sand the frame  the next are none of these boys have a good roll model. One of the little boys isn't aloud at anyone else's house, but he is more than welcome to come here because I think it doesn't help him go in the right direction being punished for not having any parental guidance. So I will let them all hang out here and teach them what limited knowledge I have along the way. You wouldn't believe it but out of 5 boys, 2 of them mine, I am the only Dad in 2 years that have taken all these boys fishing. Sad really.

Ha ha, I do try to steer them away from the new cars. There was some sort of BMW blah blah blah come driving by. The boys where all look at that now that is nice. I am sure it was a nice car but I picked it apart and told them anyone with money could drive the exact same car. But it took a certain amount of talent to fix up and drive and old car!

Your Correct Jeff,

It is about 2 miles from the door of my house. I didn't realize it was there all this time is the sad thing. Kinda tucked in behind itself and I don't go that direction very often.

OK, So after according to my wife sulking all day yesterday I decided to move ahead even though my sand blaster is giving me fits. So here we go!

Cleaning the springs today here they are, I am waiting on my wife to get here with some paint removal stuff.

Image

The top Spring Holders
Image

So this is what I tried DID NOT like it.

Image

So I know the guy that owned my truck before my dad hit a tree with it. He must have broke one of the lower spring clamps, so they fixed it by welding it, but they left it looking pretty bad.

Image
Image

So I made my own table grinder and cleaned it up.

Here they are with the first coat!

Image

I hope that my parts come in by tomorrow so I can get her welded and paint the motor. Than I can start putting her back together! I am still going to need to get my drive shaft shortened before it can all be hooked up.

Not much of an update, because the cooler weather is causing my paint to dry a lot slower. But I did make a run to the story and bought myself some nice gifts!

Image

About a 100 bucks for a new power steering pump, and a new starter. I couldn't get my starter rebuilt for that I don't believe.

Here is a shot of my power steering bracket, it is ready for paint but I am not going to paint anything else tonight. Do it first thing in the morning. I need to clean my shop up a little so I have room again!

Looks good Billy! I remember those days, (getting so much done on the truck).
I am still going to need to get my drive shaft shortened before it can all be hooked up.
I'd recommend these guys in a heartbeat! They did both of my rear shafts with no issues / have been in business for over 30 years / about a 45 minute drive from you though.

I also remember seeing a driveshaft shop in Brandon-just can't remember where... :hmm:

Thanks Jeff,

I don't mind bringing stuff a little distance if I know it is going to get done right.

Well I don't feel like I got a lot done but here is after about 6 hours of spraying these thing with that paint removal stuff in a can and course steel wool. The one on the right I just sprayed again, the one on the left just has a little paint left on them. They are going to be painted silver with some POR15 should look good with the dual shock mounts that I have on the old girl now.

Image

My next thing I am going to order here directly.

:woohoo:

Doing the happy dance, I contacted broncograveyard.com to see if they had the mounting bracket for my NP205 and they gave me to another guy. They have my part. I am paying more for it than I did a new starter but now I have one on the way. Here is the website for the place. Good people they are going to pull the part and have it sent out tomorrow. :woohoo:

Not Much of an Update, but I had to get organized again so I cleaned my garage. I am bad about starting one thing, getting sidetracked leaving all that stuff there and than starting something else. So it was getting to the point that I couldn't walk around my garage, or use any of my tables or counter space. So since it was freezing cold here in FL, I just cleaned up.

Ah yes... A Basset Hound aka glue dispenser. Gorilla glue doesn't have anything on hound spit...!

A little tip for you if you let your drool dispenser ride along with you...
When I had a Bloodhound I replaced my headliner with one I cut out of a sheet of FRP. (Fiber reinforced Plastic) It made it a lot easier to scrub the stelactites off the ceiling in the truck. Sometimes those bad boys would dry up and be hanging over a foot long from the headliner...!

OK Got A Lot Done and still hard at it.

These are some parts that still needed cleaned.

Image

After a little cleaning the parts came out good too but don't have a photo of them.

Image

Carb Spacer A somewhat before and after.

Image

Image

Got my high volume oil pump in today. So I installed it. Here is a shot before I started.

Image

After sitting in there for I would say 20 years the oil strainer tube :? didn't want to come off. I light tap with a hammer and a flat tip it popped right off.

Image

Same for the oil pump itself. It need a light bang from a hammer. Here is the old one next to the new one. Wanted to make sure they where the same dimentions.

Image

A little wire wheel action, and the end was clean on the oil strainer tube connector. :?

The new oil pump in.

Image

The oil strainer tube :hmm: connected.

Image

The oil pan fitting test making sure the oil strainer didn't hit bottom.

Image

Hand washed all the bolts for the oil pan.

Image

And finally got a helper. My oldest can't help he has a lot of homework.

Making good time man! Did ya'll have frost there this morning? It was something like 18 when I walked out the door this morning-yeah...I miss Florida!
Are you gonna replace the freeze plugs while you have the engine out? Good cheap insurance for sure.
Don't forget the oil pump primer for initial start, (without all the oiless parts rattling like a cummins) LOL!
