New member from Edmonton Canada, '69 F-250

Post by max_alberta »

Have been reading this website daily for the last two months, I should introduce myself - The amount of info on here is awsome, I really appreciate that this resource exists.

A friend of mine is getting rid of a fair condition '69 F-250, three on the tree, I6 engine, and a terrible flat black paint job done by someone who owned it before him. Truck is solid, and not rust free, but not rusted out either like many around here. The price is right (free), I've always wanted to fix up a 60's vehicle, and my Mustang isn't too useful for hauling anything. So better or worse, I'm going to see about getting it safe, roadworthy, and somewhat less ugly.

Will be about a week before I get the truck (he works out of the cty) Will post pics when I've got it.

I'm only 23 and it feels like I'm married to my old truck. For better or worse, through sickness and in health.......but if you love it it'll love you back.

Here's the "beauty"

Parked 8 inches from a fence on two sides at my friend's house hid a lot of damage. The truck is far from rust free, and in bad need of some new sheet metal on the front end. My friend had it in an accident which was worse than I had thought, although the frame appears to be okay.

Took a while to get her going, had to get a tow to my place. Old carb was so full of corrosion that the bowl was eaten all the way though. I got a "new" Carter YF from pick-n-pull off an '80s F-150 for $15.

The 3 on the tree is loose as hell, but does work - steering isn't too bad, and the brakes are the one thing my friend actually serviced.

Engine blows a bit of smoke until it warms up, and I have installed a manual choke kit.

Verdict? Gonna keep it... I can see why people like these trucks. Mine has a long ways to go before I can live with it, but projects are nice to have. First on the list is a new pinion seal for the Dana 60. [
