Just found this site and it looks like a winner. I just purchased a fixer upper F100 and am looking forward to learning from the masters that seem to be all over this forum. Thanks for having me

Re: 71 F100 newbie
thx for the warm welcome!
My first mission is changing the rear end gears. I have no idea what is in the pumpkin but my truck screams at 50 mph. My options are to buy a rear end/gears or accept a friends offer of a 2.75 rear end. Most of my driving is highway and I don't pull much, but would like the option to if the need arises. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks...love this place. Still getting used to the format so please excuse my ignorance.

Wow, Texas...howdy neighbor! I'm near New Orleans.fireguywtc wrote: from Texas!
I'm an HVAC mechanic by trade and consider myself extremely mechanically inclined, but have never done any auto mechanic type work. So my questions will probably seem pretty darn dumb to everyone on this site.
Thanks again for the welcome, I've read a few threads and realized how far out of my league I was, but also felt a sense of security knowing that I'm in the company of the equivalent of Chess Grandmasters of Ford trucks. You guys rock!

Welcome aboard from Northern Ca.It should work for light towing. Tall gears for a bump, but it would cruise the hwy real good. What does it have under the hood?
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.
