Hi, I am installing a Mercedes 3.0 turbo diesel into a small motorhome..It is a Shasta 17 foot long mounted on a E300 chassis...I think that it is a 1971??? I joined thinking that this forum would cover vans, but I may be in error.. I have some Ford dealer experience, automatic transmission knowledge and will be changing my rear end ratio soon. I am unsure of the year of the van as some campers are titled when they are sold.. If I am on the correct forum, I will repost with vin #'s & the rear axle tag info...I know it now has 3:73 gears, which are too tall from the short 1/4 mile that I have driven it..I will need to identify the rear....DANA 60???
Then try to locate a 4:56 or 4:88 carrier & gear set...thank you for reading this ,Donnie

from SoCal. No first hand experience myself with a project such as yours but I'll bet that a lot of pickup truck 'stuff' will cross over to your van chassis. If your van chassis is a 350 series it may just have a Dana 70 rear axle.

Thanks Forrest, my truck is Van model E300..it seems that they were only made a couple of years. I am not well familiar with this type of communication , so I may be replying in the wrong place..

I think Larry's right that your van might have a heavier differential than the Dana 60.

Shortly after joining here I asked the same question that your asking today, to identify my truck's differential. And I learned a little bit about that. Maybe you'd like to check out that thread?

Also, just recently (today perhaps), I noticed a thread wherein another guy was interesting in giving away a Dana 60, and I think it had a limited slip 4.xx gear ratio. Maybe if you two guys are nearby one another that would work out! I'll try to search for that thread and post it here.

I'm not sure whether or not the leaf spring pads/mounts are in the same place on the Dana 60 used in pickups as they are in the Dana 60's used in vans. I guess you'd have to measure everything to check it out!
