after 79 the only thing you can use is the power steering pump the brackets and maybe the hoses. the column wont work or the power steering box.

if i get those parts off the truck what will i need to find then? What do you think a good price for those parts would be? Does it make a difference that my truck is a 3 on the tree? will i need to find a 3 speed steering column?

the bendix power steering is the easiest way to do a 3 speed column . since the 3 speed saginaw columns are a little more harder to find than the bendix boxes. a 3 speed saginaw column is going to be more expensive too.

http://www.fordification.com/tech/powersteering.htm Explains what all is involved with adding powers steering, including modifications necessary to your 3 on the tree steering column.

As Fordman said, the best power steering gear that will bolt up to your Bump properly is a 1968 through 1979 Ford / Saginaw steering gear box. 1980 and newer F series trucks are "Front" steer whereas ours are "Rear" steer.

You can use a Bendix power steering gear (if you can find one), and it will fit without modification to your steering column, but they are not as durable as the Ford / Saginaw steering gears. They can be found in 1965 through 1967 Ford trucks.
