Brake lines

The brake lines the run from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve always have loops in them. I've always seen them but never notice or thought about why they are looped. Can someone give me the answer to why the have 1 to 2 loops in them?

The loops or coils in the brake lines that exit the master cylinder allow these lines to extend or contract during the flexing that occurs between the frame and the cab.

If they were short and directly attached from the master cylinder to the distribution block or proportioning valve, they would break or pull out of the master cylinder/distribution block/proportioning valve as your cab and chassis flexed during driving.

12 ounce cans or bottles of your favorite icy cold beverage make for great loop templates. Use the cans while full and unopened, bottles don't matter. Spray paint cans work too for that matter.
