68 F100 Ranger New Old truck for new member

Post by selash »

Hello,
Just purchased a 68 F100 with a 360 and automatic. It is my second f100. I have had a 67 with a 300 six and three on the tree for 30 yrs. Love the truck. I want to swap out the 360 for a 300 six(which I already have) and want advice on the transmission setup. I want to go with a AOD trans. The overdrive will help the mileage for sure.
Hope someone has done this swap. Would love any guidance and tips.

The truck I got has plenty of surface rust, but seems very solid. It has the original bench seat in great shape. Even the carpets are very good.

Anyway, I look forward to sharing with the group.
I am in the SF Bay area of California.

I will be back online this evening.

All the best!

'Afternoon Selash,

That sounds like you have a good collection! My first Bumpside had a 300-I6 and it was a very smooth, trouble-free engine. I can imagine it being nice when paired up with an overdrive transmission like that.

I don't specifically recall seeing any threads on that exact swap, but I might have visually filtered them out since I don't own a truck with a 300-I6 at the moment. If you wish you could always start a new thread in the Drivetrain forum area for advice on different ways to achieve what you're looking to do.

I grew up in Bonny Doon and now live down in Salinas, but I've been working in San Jose so I'm thinking about moving closer to that area this Summer. Maybe to Scott's Valley. There are a few other FORDification members who also live in this general area.

I'm looking forward to seeing photos of your trucks when you have a chance to post some!

Wow! Thanks for the great welcome.

I have a real love for my truck, now trucks. Just went out and hit a rust spot on the hood with some 320# wet/dry sandpaper and wow the rust came right off. This made me smile big.

I have a few moments now, so I will figure out how to post some pictures and some other details.

I am so lucky to have the extra 300-I6. It is a rare find. For its entire life it was only ever run on a dyno to test emissions. So it was never in a car and has zero miles. It still has some of the hookup connected. It looks very new. The mainfolds are perfect. The bell housing has a plate that says "Donated by for for research". So this is going in the truck I just acquired, with the transmission to be determined..

Just need a bit more free time.

Love Nova Scotia! Been thru there one time on may way to and from Newfoundland in my F350 Crewcab. This was a while ago.
Had some amazing lobster, just a magical place to be.
Good to meet you. I always have wanted to go back thru that part of the world.
all the best.
