bolt pattern

Post by blumule »

my truck is a 69 f100. What is the bolt pattern for these trucks and how do you measure it? Im talking wheels. Isnt it 5 on 5.5. What does this mean. Also for a 10 inch wide wheel what would a good tire size be? would a 255 mount to it? How wide or narrow can i go for this wheel. [ 15x10].

Yes the F100 trucks are 5 x 5.5. That means that there are 5 bolts and if you measure one bolt straight across to the other bolt it will be 5.5 inches (not exactly straight across but going across the center hub to the farthest bolt). Keep in mind that if a tire is sized 255/60R15 means that the tread is 255 milimeters wide, the sidewall height is (255*60%) or 153 mm and it is on a 15 inch rim. So you could have a 255/60R15 and a 255/30R15 which would be completely different heights. A good tire size calculator: http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

Go to tirerack.com and type in a tire size. From there you can look at the other sizes in a chart. The chart lists the tread width, overall sidewall to sidewall width, overall tire diameter, and recommended wheel width range as well as optimum wheel width for any tire.

thanks. The reason for the inquiry was i saw a set of 15x10 wheels that would look good on my truck, but ive determined they would need more tire than i was willing to run.Im running 15x8 now on 255x70x15 tires. Man those wheels did look good!

Just a minor point, the 5 X 5.5 of the bolt pattern means it is 5 bolts on a 5.5 circle, not 5.5 across two bolts. Basically from the very center of the hub to the center of a bolt it is a 2.75 inch radius. Because it is a circle, 2 times the radius equals the diameter thus 5.5 inches. On a 5 bolt pattern you can measure this across two bolts, it is not exact but close enough to tell you what you have. Measure from the center on one hole to the back of the third hole or measure center to center on a hole to the third hole and multiply by 1.05. Hawkrod.
