Tire Ply

Post by rocketma1n »

I am getting new tires for my 1971 F250 Camper Special tomorrow and am being told I need to get a minimum of 8 ply tires. Is there any reason for me to a get a 10 ply for a daily driver without a camper that wont be towing? Any good/reasonably priced tire options? I am thinking of going with a 245/75R16. Thanks.

I don't know of any reason of why you would "need" 10ply for the use you described, however I have a 72 F250 Camper Special and just bought a new set of Cooper Discovery HT tires, size 265 75 16 10ply and they ride and handle extremely well. Very quiet. They are slightly wider than the Firestones that were on there. I paid $150 a piece. In my case, I do on occasion carry a big, heavy slide-in camper. I recommend the Coopers.

If your not using your truck for heavy loads a P series tire instead of a LT would serve you well and save you some money.
If they make them in your size. :2cents:
