I'm changing out my old front drums and putting new stuff on,the problem I'm having is I can't get the old drums off.I have back the shoes off, used p-oil tried heat and now its 2 days later and I still don't have them off.I'm using a 5lb. hammer, anyone got any advice sure would like to get this job done!! Thanks
they are suppose to come off. i have yet to get the ones off the hubs i was going to send you. its just rust holding them on there. i know that. i was going to put the drum on the ground and smack the center hub and see if it would help break the rust loose.
Auto Zone had a 15% discount on everything so I got new drums from them, but I can't get the old one off.Im going to bring the air hammer home tomorrow and if that don't do it I guess I'll just keep plugging away at it.
It is my understanding that they are a press fit on the hubs. Remove the hub nut, pull the entire assembly, and take it to a shop to have the old drums pressed off the hubs and the new ones installed.

that may be the easiest way. is to get them pressed off. i am not so sure they are a press fit. because i have one in the garage from a 66 that slips on and off.
I know when I first got the truck (5 years ago)I had the front drums off and they came off very easy, but they sure won't come off now.But thats just my luck...
Dumb question but did you back off the pads? They may have worn a groove into the drum and caused a lip thats holding them on. if they are not moving at all you need a bigger sledge and keep working the drum, thats what helped me anyway??
Yes I did back off the linings.I ended up just knocking the wheel studs out and then the drum will come off. There is a collar on the studs that the drum goes over if they are the factory studs if they have been changed they don't have the collar.I needed to replace some of the studs anyway from hitting them with a hammer. Anyway its all history now its a done deal, but thanks to all that helped....
