CV IFS Question

Post by Randle »

Does any of you Guys that have used the 03 or newer CV IFS know what they measure hub to hub. I measured a 94 that I have today but I think the newer ones are wider.

Thanks JG F100, Sounds like about 4" wider. I am still in the planning stages on lowering my 70.

From what I am seeing the 03 and up would be easier to put in, almost a bolt in job, but it it is widier so you are more limited on wheels and tires. The older is still about 3" wider then the origional and you would have to cut the frame and weld in the new frame clip or make a new crossmember.

the '03-'10 u can unbolt the the whole cross member from the vic and slmost just bolt it ( very little cutting and welling on our trucks)on our trucks easyer also it looks cooler, more room
the 02 and down well theres a hell of more work swaping the front of the frames out. don't look as good not as cool looking, rides maybe the same th 03 up

You sure about that? I remember measuring this before I put it on and it was 67.5" from one wheel mounting surface to the other. The rear on the same car is 70"

The main thing I want to end up with is being able to run old school wheels. I have a two sets of wheels a set of Torq-Throst and a set of Cragar SS, One of my trucks is setting on a 94 Marquis frame and I know these wheels will work on it OK, but if I go much wider they want fit. I am thinking about putting IFS and 4 Bar on my other truck and that is why I was asking.

Youll need at least 16" wheels with the 03+ CV IFS. They also came with 17" and 18" on Marauders. Width is about 7 to 8". The wheels need a large offset of around 50mm to clear the calipers and keep the track width within range.

Thanks everyone for the information. Right now I am leaning to the older IFS, I have a 94 that my late wife drove I could use, and I know my wheels will work with front and rear axles. I know it will be a lot more work but I guess that is what old trucks are for, is to give you something to do.
