Eric, I'm almost at the same stage in my project as you are. All the replacement brake parts can be found at your local parts store. I just bought all of mine from O'Reilly's. I did comparison shop quite a bit. They have a hardware kit that's listed as the "pro" kit that includes all springs, adjuster and holddown hardware. You need that, shoes and cylinders, and you should be good to go on the rear. (I did go ahead and buy new drums too - they were only like $39 or something)

Oh - and I ordered the DC mounts as well, I planned on drilling them once the cab is back on the frame and lined up, but thanks for confirming.

Thanks. I would have liked to do the disc brake conversion but not in the plans at this time. I took brake housing off without removing any springs or clamps, etc. Just POR-15'd the back side and re-installed. Will pull all apart and re-install with new springs, clamps, cylinders, etc. etc. later in the project. I ran all new brake lines by purchasing longer than needed lengths, then cutting and flaring each one to match (sort of) the originals that I pulled off. This was time consuming and required some 3-dimensional thinking. Now I only hope the flares I did (first time) are good enough to not leak.

Keep posting and putting pictures in, love to reference others progress. This site is terrific for support and information!

I saw those breaks, they look like mine. I just bought new pads, and a reuild kit for each of the front breaks. Im sticking with drums for now, and rebuilding them both.

OK lots of little details, lots of cold weather and although got a heater for the garage, it deos make for a lot of stink and fumes. Wife loves it....NOT. Anyway, more POR 15. All new brake lines are installed and steering gearbox back in place. Rigged a metal strap to help steer while moving chasis around. Used an old golf club grip to cover brake lines and fuel line where it goes behind the steering gear box Had to do something a litte red neck and quirky.... Then completed all sealing of cab's underside/ Covered with undercoating. Also hit the inside of the quarter panels with POR 15 and hten undercoating and the inner quarter panels got it tonight. In essence, everything that is underneath the truck is POR15'd or undercoated or both! Should help keep things in good shape for a while under there.

This weekend will re-mount the cab onto the chasis and begin working on the interior of the cab.

So last chance for someone to tell me what else I need to address before putting the cab on.....I just know I will install it and sometime later find out I should have routed this or that?

Thats not too far to fix. Main thing is if you are determined to fix it. If so its perfectly repairable. No worse than most.

Well, cab is back sitting on the chasis. A little pause as I ponder how to insure it is sitting correctly aligned prior to drilling the holes in the DC mounts. Started bolting back up the brakes and found some more questions there. I did take a lot of reference pictures, I thought but if you are reading this and are not a Ford (insert your truck year and model) expert or thinking of a restoration like mine, reference pictures are very helpful. Take a ton!!! every little bit and angle....and before you start taking things apart check how much it costs to replace. Since you might be suprised just how much it costs but since you had to use BFH or something that damaged it upon removal, you are now stuck to pay. For example the inside of the cab firewall cover!

Anyway, pretty excited about this stage as it really is obvious that I am making the turn towards full reassembly. Not a show truck but nicely cleaned up and critical systems rebuilt or replaced. Goal is to have it back on the road (without bed) by first weekend in April!!!

It's looking really good. I have found over the years, that the best thing is to try to over-document everything and take your time. Also, don't get frustrated if something you just put back on has to come back off before it goes on again...BTW, if your 71 donor truck's grill inserts are in good shape, keep me in mind when you go to sell them.

Obviously I am too late to tell you this, but the one thing I did when I patched my cab mounts and floor pans is I forgot to cut the hole for the emergency brake cable to go through the firewall.

Nice work.. It seems you have a couple of months on my rebuild. It sounds like you are doing the samethings I will be doing to my 67... I will check back in on the POR 15.... Keep up the good work and the post coming...

By the way if you want to know what rust is you should see the roof line on my daughters 67

No my fuel line looked just fine. I even cleaned it up some and POR15'd it like I have been doing with everything else! No cuts bends or squished parts. Nice to know I have found a way to include golf equipment in the rebuild. Next I just need a touch of some duct tape (thinking of firewall cover already-them things are real expensive to replace) and somehwere I need to use caulk just to make it consistent with my usual types of fixes!!

Always thought the bed played a critical part in relining up the cab Your bed sits directly on the frame....which gives you your bump elavation and for the most part---theres not much "front to back" play in mounting holes. So your cab can be adjusted of that. thats just my
