Broken shift collars, yes plural.

Post by ta TACO »

OK, so I bought a new column for my 68 f-250 since the one it was damaged from extreme neglect. I started to paint the new column and noticed that slot on the collar for the shift tab on the shift tub had cracked on one side. So I went to grab the other one and that one too is broken. Is this a common occurrence? I have only looked at 2 collars, but I'm 0-2. What are the chances? :x I believe the collar is aluminum, so I cannot weld it. Even if it's not aluminum, I don't think it could be welded, at least not by me :D . This SUCKS!

I'm trying to get some pics, but I can't get my computer to find the camera. As soon I get it to work i'll put them up. I noticed that the cracks are on the top area. So what I'm thinking is that it's from putting the truck in park over and over.

Yeah, the pin hole on the one I got from the junk yard is wallowed out pretty bad. Are the shift collars the same for manual and auto?

it's so common that it is probably one of the most sold after market parts. i don't think they ever stopped making them, at least i can always remember being able to buy them.

Is there a difference between DC and Carolina Classics other than $50.00?
