I bought another Bump today!

Post by dolinick »

The previous owner and his wife met me around 10:30 this morning. He brought a battery to start the truck with. It wasn't strong enough to start the truck so we jumped it with his car. At first he cranked it a few times and there was no sign of life. Then we just put a little gas in the tank. He cranked it again and it started instantly. It was running so smooth and quiet I wasn't sure it was running at first. Then he let it run for a few minutes. We I helped take some junk and tires out of the bed and he cleaned out the cab. I got some photos of the truck as well. I will get the title transferred and probably be able to drive it home on Monday.

, That's a great looking '67! Looks to be pretty solid as well. Also loving the drive-train nothing better than an I6 paired backed by a 3 speed . Do you have any info on that under-dash A/C unit? I've never seen one that looks quite like that before? :hmm:

No, I don't have any info except for what's in the photo. It says "Mark IV" and "Sierra" on the front by the knobs.

I really like your new bumpside! The rust gives it a nice patina. Looks like the truck is outfitted for a CB radio. With a little cleaning up, this truck could look real good in a short while. Good luck with it.

PS-That headliner looks to be in great shape/condition.

When I first drove up to it a few days ago. I knew I wanted it as soon as I saw it. This morning though when I took a closer look at the grille I realized how nice it was. There is a small dent in the driver's side headlight bucket but not bad. The previous owner also said he simply disconnected the Air Conditioning one time because he was having engine issues and didn't want it to overheat. And he said that the Air Condition was working just fine when He disconnected it. The truck looks pretty nice imho but should clean up pretty well. I am already thinking about repainting the lower valence though. I would like to do something with the door panels as well. That plastic just doesn't hold up. The dash pad looks pretty good. Most likely it was protected from the sun by all the clutter and layers of grime that covered the dash before he cleaned out the cab. Um, the worst rust area that I could see besides the battery tray and corner of the inner fender under the battery tray was on the bed back near the tailgate and the tailgate itself. The bumper is rusted through as well I believe. He must have had a cb radio. There is a mic bracket on the air conditioning unit. I like the mounting through the hood cb antenna but there is also a mounting bracket in the back of the bed. It would be nice to put a looong whip antenna in the back.

Just imagine all the stories the PO could tell. I already heard some interesting things. I believe he said the truck was stolen around 1978 and some parts were stripped. They took the radiator, battery and carburetor I believe. Anyway he said he told the insurance company he wanted it back to warranty specs so I am pretty sure the original equipment was replaced. Although the truck has the original paint I found out that the truck had gotten scratched on the side which was repainted.

Well, I just plan on driving it. :)

Actually I want to get a piece of trim for the driver side bed that is missing.

I want to replace the master cylinder and wheel cylinders.

I would like to remove the cracked plastic and arm rests from the door panels. If the steel panel behind the plastic trim is good then I'll just keep them.

I want to clean everything and maybe get a new seat cover.

I would probably like to paint the wheels. I am not sure what kind of hub caps if any I will use.

Oh, I have a receiver hitch bolted to the frame of my other truck. I might want to put it on the new one but then again maybe the bumper is strong enough to pull anything that I would ever want/need to tow. Actually the bumper has rust holes in it. I am still considering keeping the rusty bumper but It probably needs to go. I wouldn't mind putting a KOEPP CHEVROLET La Vernia, TX bumper on it because my mom and dad had a '69 Chevelle from KOEPP when I was a kid. But I can find one of those square steel type bumpers at the salvage yards. Any dealer name would be alright.

Polish the grille.

These are just some ideas that have been going through my head. I have no money to spend on the truck at the moment. I just found out the wife is pregnant a few days ago after I went to look at the truck. We are also trying to buy a big old house but still need financing.

I need to find out if the truck has a center seat belt and if it doesn't go get one from u-pull it or other boneyard.

Your plans for your bump are almost exactly what I was thinking when I bought mine in 2009. I have kept mine mostly all original and have only replaced things that were necessary(brake system, seat cover, carb). My truck was in about the same condition as yours, minus some of the rust. I hope you find a square "dealer" bumper. My bumpside has one on it that is original "Gene Jones Ford Lampasas, Texas". My wheels looked like yours when I bought my truck. I just wet-sanded them down and repainted them with some good qualtity spray paint, then got new tires and bought a set of old hubcaps off ebay. Looks good. I like your idea of putting a long CB antenna on the rear of the bed. I just did that to my other truck(f150) recently. Keep us at Fordifiaction updated.

Thank You! I took them with my Sony A300 and a wide 18mm lens. Then I edited them a little bit online with flickr.com and picnik. increased contrast and saturation a little and then blurred and made the background black and white. Darkened the edges and added the border. Oh, I cropped it a little. :)

I drove the truck home today. The front tires were so bad I decided to stop at a tire shop on the way home and replace them. He had the original title from 1967. I took a couple of photos of it but we had to turn it in when we transferred the title this morning. Oh, Alton's (the PO) neighbor said he traded in something like a '56 truck so he got like $350 for the trade in when he bought the truck new in March 1967.

Oh I guess the blue pieces of paper are the licence renewals. The first one says 1969 on it.

I'll post more photos of the paperwork and the truck later.
