Leaf Springs

Post by wcm473ciford »

Hi again , I made the mistake for the 3rd time of letting my son drive my
truck , I wont go into the other two but this time he busted the housing
and ripped out the pinion gear . I have replaced all of that but when he
did it he twisted the leaf springs and now they're bent in the wrong direction . Does anyone know which years are interchangeable for
the springs and I guess I need heavier duty ones so if you know if
any 3/4 ton or whatever is thicker than what was on it will fit I'd
appreciate it .

Thanks ,
Bill

I wish I had a clutch with a 4 speed but its a C6 , he was backing up which makes both wheels spin and must have been on some asphalt that gave it very good traction . It torqued the rear end upward and bent the springs along with the other damage .

Get an axle wrap bar (traction bar). That will save the springs anyway.

Thanks for that idea , I should have thought about traction
bars before but I still have to replace the springs , I'm just
trying to find out what year range I have to find some .

68-72 should be the same, IIRC the F250 and F100 springs were the same width and length.

Just a suggestion, take truck to good spring shop and let them install new springs. They might have some suggestions about stabilizing the rear.

the kit says for 66-79, would it work for a 65?

I don't know if the one from Bronco Grave yard will fit a 65. The one from Sam's will fit anything. You weld it to the axle housing and will more then likely have to fab a crossmember bar for it to bolt to.

Thanks for all the replies , I think the F250 springs would help along with traction bars . Now locating a set is the next thing , thanks again .
