Leaf springs man

Post by soulcrushing71 »

Does anyone know of a company that offers new oem replacement leaf springs? It seems every one just makes them for 73 and up.

His might be a candidate for re-arching, but don't know if they are broken or rusty or what.

Well I am close to the Dallas area, and they are very rusty and a little warped. I would really like some new ones.

I'm not sure if Flex-o-matic replacement springs are available. Check to see if yours are Flexo springs. Call General Spring to see if they have what you need http://www.generalspringkc.com/index.php

Cool. :)
<---- fill out your stuff? ;)

Do yourself a big favor and measure the length from the front eyes to the locating pins on your leaf
spring packs right after you get 'em off. Don't get 'em mixed up, ok? ;) LOL

--------------------

My '75 F150 came from the factory with one being 5/8"(!) shorter than the other so it wouldn't crab
down the road -like a Chevy of that era would-. When I'd see a Ford pickup crabbing its way down
the highway I would wonder what went wrong? Several years ago, after re-arching my leaf springs
myself, now I wonder if they changed the rear springs and didn't bother to measure anything?
Heck, the dealership might have done it even?

BTW, my pickup goes down the road straight as an arrow, no crabbing or pulling to one side. :)
The steering parts and suspension parts are like-new and it steers like a new vehicle, no kidding.
Two big problems were the original 15x ->5+1/2"<- wheels, switched to 16x7" and 235/85-16E's.
Put bearings in the bearing-less "Ford Integral Power Steering Gear", years before I ever heard of
"RedHead" was the other biggie.

Flexo springs are a direct bolt up but you need to use a flexo rear spring shackle.

I went to a local heavy truck shop and they ordered my front coil springs in as new. I asked him at the time if he could get the rear flex-o-matics. He looked them up and gave me a price saying he could get them or re-arch mine. Long time ago and I don't remember the price. I didn't buy them either as mine were not that bad. Reason I am saying this is you might want to check the local heavy trucks shops as they deal with springs every day of the week. I had that same company rebuild my power steering gear and they did a great job for much less than buying a rebuilt one from Carpenters

You can use lmctruck.com for new rear leaf springs or national parts depot. lmc carries both flex-o matic and non flex-o matic. national parts depo only carries flex-o matic... measure your hangers though... cause i measured my april of 1972 f250's and found out that the 1973 up 2.5/3 inch wide springs will bolt right in as long as i change the rear shackle. this should help you quite a bit

You could try Ray's champion or Ft Worth championSpring
But I would use :
Bucks Wheel and Equiptment
112 commercial St
Ft worth tx
817-332-1228
Family owned and operated since 1961 I ran their service dept for a number of years good folks . miguel is the service manger now and also oversees the spring shop. they can repair rebuild or find replace packs for your oem springs. I've seen spring books from the '60-'70 so they know what to look up( detailed down to production by vin & pckage seires IIRC)

I learned that Denver Spring, here in Colorado, was bought out by a big spring company down in Texas. 1-888-336-7774 I believe, from their website and from talking with them last year, they get most of their spring work done at Dallas Spring, there in Texas.
