A couple suspension questions (pictures attached)

Post by dcbullet »

My 1968 F-100 currently has a 3/4 Ton rear end (Dana 60). I'll be switching that out for a 1972 1/2 Ton rear end (Ford 9 Inch). I have a couple miscellaneous questions that have come up.

1. The parts catalogs list shocks as being from 65-69 and 70-72. Anybody know the difference? Since I have a 68 truck and will be installing a 72 rear end, I'm trying to figure out which ones to order.

2. I've attached pictures of the rear springs. I was trying to figure out if I have the 3/4 ton springs or if I've got the 1/2 ton springs with some "helper" springs added on. Can any body tell offhand?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

You have the flexomatic springs. http://www.fordification.com/forum/sear ... de=results

As far as shocks. It is probably the mounting location that are different. This will also lead to travel differences. Look and see if the mounting location is different between the two axle housings.

On the shocks, it's the top mounts that are different. Get the shocks for your year truck.

 Thanks.

My second question is mainly out of curiousity. I plan on leaving them as is, but I wondered what had been changed out by the prior owner.

He put the 3/4 rear end on because he had a camper shell.

Thanks again.
