Master Cylinder

Post by 19FORD67 »

I know this question has been asked probably many times in the past but I can't find the exact answer I need. Besides, I like to harass you old timers when absolutely necessary. :D

Here's my Q: When I get the disc brakes from the '79 placed, can I get a '67 disc brake m/c ? I can't remember if disc brakes
were an option in '67 or not, LMC doesn't provide a '67 disc option.

Any advice on which m/c to use with '79 disc brakes? I grabbed the prop. from the '79 while I was there. And I think I have the booster figured out, I just need info on the m/c.

Thanks for your help folks!

I was just reading one of the technical articles tonight and saw this one: http://www.fordification.com/tech/discbrakes01.htm

It indicates that you need the master cylinder from the donor truck. I haven't done one of these conversions though... Hopefully this link will help some while you're waiting on the exact answer...

67 F100 didnt have disc brakes ever. F250 did in 68 i think. mayeb soem of the late 67 could have had i don't know. any way. use the 79 master and your 67 hardware (booster or brake pedal rod). the only time you have to be 67 concious. is if you are doing a booster upgrade or changing out the brake pedal bracket to a 68-72 bracket.

no_treble, I have seen that article several times and I saw where Keith says to grab the m/c and booster from the donor truck, however, '79 booster will not fit a '67, but apparently a '79 m/c will join to a '67 Bendix style booster. Since the booster wouldn't work I needed to make sure a '79 m/c will work. Now it appears that our awesome fordman says that I can use just about any disc brake m/c. So, I think I am going to order a new/reman '79 m/c and a '67 booster if it turns out my booster is no good.

Thanks guys!

a disc brake master from a 69 Mustang is the same master as the trucks with the exception that the drum brake master from the truck has a built in residual pressure valves both front and rear. The Mustang piece has just the rear.

68 disc was an option on F-250. My 73 F-100 had frint disc. I always figured they were stock.

you can just remove the front.
if you get a master rebuild kit for NAPA it comes with them. You just don't install the valve for disc brake use.bottom row right to left is the two brass seats in which the lines seal too. then there's two residual pressure valves, then the two screws which are used to remove the brass seats for rebuild. They just screw into the hole in the brass and give you something to grab and pull the brass seats out. the valve is under the seats.

Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it! at this point I'm pretty sure I am going to replace everything in the braking system. I haven't inspected the drums yet but those might have to go too. I think I'm just going to get a new Fenco from Autozone. That should work ok shouldn't it? It's only 35 bucks brand new.
