OEM equiv. of LMC disc brakes

Post by red71 »

I had a shop install the LMC front disc brake conversion on my 71. I asked the shop what to ask for at the auto parts store when I inevitably have to change the pads/rotors. A call to lmc revealed that the just happen to sell replacement rotors and pads, but won't give out what the OEM specs are...anyone solved this puzzle?
Thanks!

Call LMC and tell them to take a flying **** and ask for a return shipping label.

Sorry, just me ranting about it being pretty crappy of them to do that, because you have no idea what you are getting, quality wise with their brake pads, and trying to force you to buy only their product is pretty chicken****.

Oh, and chances are they are as flakos said, with pads being availablke locally. An easy way to check is to call a parts store and see if they have brake pads for a `73 and then take one of yours in to compare with. A bit of a pain but you would know for sure then.

Yep, valuable lesson learned, unfortunately the hard way for you. Sorry to hear you had to go through that.

Just makes me like LMC that much less :cuss: and hopefully it keeps anyone else from buying that kit from them unless the get with the program.

Maybe a little late in thought, and I was looking into that kit myself, (the one on the top of that page in LMC catalog), But many times Nappa, carquest and the likes can match a pad easily. I would assume between common knowledge of the vehicles and the kit it self. Either VIA knowing what possible company maybe making their parts. this should be an easy task.
I have a few questions about the kit itself. Maybe I can at least find out some more information than previous attempts.. I'm pretty good with that. ASking the right things and not certain other things can sometimes get a part number or some inclination of cataloging reference that cross-matches with a specific other company and such. I'll call them tomorrow in the AM, PST and get some answers for both of us and others to share.

They look like these?

There not 73-up Ford parts.
They look like these pads/calipers from GM

That is most definitey not OEM. Damn, $900 and you have to buy pads from them.

Spare yourself the trouble. If you want disc brakes, go to the bone yard and get the spindles off a Ford truck that will work, along with the booster brackets and pushrod, the front brake lines and brackets (you'll need to drill/grind them off, at least one is usually riveted) and proporting valve. EVERYTHING else can be bought new at the parts store.

If you want fancy expensive disk brakes, well, you can have fancy expensive disk brakes. But if you are going to spend that much for them, make sure you can buy whatever brand of pads you want.

Called them today... Had a chat with lil "Bobby".. guy had the personality of a wet dish rag and about the same luke warm smarts to go with it. I didnt hold back expressing a few common sense customer service requirements that they fail on their part. They seem to just be order takers. Non of them no anything without reading any notes. God forbid theirs none of those there now.. I told the guy I think for stopping my 2 tons worth of truck I'll be seeking another manufacture or stock components I know that work.

Had they actually HAD the information we would like to have, I could have got it for you. But since Lil Bobby there is just a cue card reading order taker.. I'd say anyone buying from LMC, BUYER BEWARE AND INFORMED before you order, or face possible RA numbers... o.O

Hopefully this will help the next guy - with enough sense to search this forum (unlike me!). They probably are chevy parts made in China...
I have to say, these things stop much better than the drums - but they're not great, especially with the weight of the 460 I've got up front.

Thanks for the .02 gentlemen.
