Lowering question

Post by mustanguy »

Hi guys, I'm doing a front disk brake swap on my 390 powered '71 LWB. As you know the 390 is offset to the passenger side and uses different springs from right to left. I cant afford lowered I beams at the moment and was wondering if I cut about a half coil off both sides, will it still sit level? Springs being different and all?

Cutting springs = negative camber. Negative camber = pre-mature tire wear and handling issues.

i think i read that cuttign off 1 1/2 coils gives you 1 1/2 inches of drop. but you will have to get your i beams cold bent in order to keep the camber correct.

I don't think it would be more than a degree or two and if there's a problem then I could rig up my own i-beam bender. I was just wondering if it would still be level from right to left.

Also, the front end seems lower than factory from spring droop, I'm guessing, and the wheels look like they've already been aligned for this by how straight up and down they are.
