Front brake drum
Hello , I'm rebuilding the brakes front and back on my 72 4wd . I've completed the
back but having trouble removing the front drums . I broke a small piece off of one
of them but I'm replacing the drums so that's no problem . Anybody have any advice
about how to get them off . Thanks Bill

they are probably rusted to the hub. or may have some sort of keeper on the studs. i'd probably pull the whole hub to get at the brakes. actually that is what i need to do to replace my stuck wheel cylinder on mine.

Did you loosen the adjuster so the drum could clear the shoes?
Sounds like it's shoe locked.. Once I get the shoes backed off,
if it's still hard to pull, I'll whack the drum a couple of times with
a big heavy hammer to break any rust loose.
That will usually do the trick.

The drum turns easy , I whacked it with a hammer and broke a piece of it off . It
still didn't budge . I'll try again today . Thanks

You need to whack it closer to the center of the drum, preferably between the studs (if you're good with a hammer...
).
That will break the drum loose from the hub and studs.

you need to pull the 4w looking hub assembly off and then there is two locking nuts that need to come off. there is a locking washer in between them. then it will come off as a unit hub housing and drum. the front drums are not free floating

found this diagram that might help you out. it might not be your front dif. but they are all done the same.

part 1102-3 is the hub assembly that is attached to the drum. and parts 1198 is the locking nuts.
