Power Steering Issues

Hello everyone,

First post in a LONG TIME.

Question: On my 1971 Ford F250 should the power steering feel...well like power steering? Sometimes the steering feels AWESOME, almost too good - then others it feels like things aren't meshing correctly. (Tough)

Any advice? Fluids are topped off. Could it possibly just be the PS pump?

Anything is possible. Could be the pump. how frequently does it act up and is it repeatable, i.e. Turning left/right first thing in the morning ect.

If it feels like it is grinding your cab mounts might be dropping putting a bind on the steering shaft. Bearings inside the column might be dry or bad. Rag joint might be bad. Do you have much free play?

If you don't have a P/S cooler on it, it could be heating up and overheating. Need to pin down when/why/how it doesn't "feel right".
